Tanzania is the most peaceful country in Africa.

State pumps Sh70b into Konza City project.

The government has pumped Sh70 billion in Konza Technopolis Project with a large chunk of the money invested in the horizontal infrastructure, instrumental in the development of the 5000 acre parcel of land.

Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KOTD) Director General John Tanui said Sh40 billion has so far been spent to lay underground utilities that will service upcoming structures.

An additional Sh17 billion has been spent on a modern data centre while Sh13 billion will be used to construct the Konza Advanced Institute of Science and Technology campus.

“Of the 5,000 acres, 410 are now fully-serviced and provided with all utilities and capabilities of a smart city, capable of reducing the challenges of urbanisation as well as making it competitive,” said Tanui.

Monitor construction

He spoke on Wednesday, when the Vision 2030 Delivery Board paid a courtesy visit to monitor construction progress at the Technopolis.

The board was led by Joseph Tiampati, a member and Director General Ken Mwige.

Considerable progress has been made on the development of the horizontal infrastructure, key among them roads, utility corridor and the water reclamation facility.

Stella Muhoro, KOTD’s Chief Manager, Business Development said through all the projects, the institution was injecting Sh50 million every month to the local economy in terms of salaries and wages for contractors.

Konza Technopolis is a key vision 2030 flagship project aimed at transitioning Kenya into a newly industrialised upper middle income country with high quality life for Kenyans.
