my confidence in our retaining the EPL next season hinges (not relies) on the below match statistics in our last two consecutive defeats in the Community Shield attempts.

there's a striking similarity as we seem to have dominated in all key stats in both games. please don't call me superstitious, because am not!

Alisson - 7

Made a smart save to deny Eddie Nketiah but couldn't do much about the opening goal.

Andy Robertson - 9

Flashed some brilliant crosses across the face of goal in the first half but nobody was there to convert. Excellent.

Virgil van Dijk - 7

Had the ball in the net in the first half but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Joe Gomez - 7

Steady performance, didn't really put a foot wrong but was put under pressure on one occasion by Eddie Nketiah. Moved to right-back in the second half.

Neco Williams - 6
Could have got tighter to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the goal. Otherwise fairly solid but did not pose the same threat as Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Fabinho - 7
Made his presence felt in the middle of the park. Controlled the game in some stages and hard in the tackle.

Gini Wijnaldum - 7
A few sloppy passes but very energetic in the second half with neat and tidy play.

James Milner - 7
Headed over arguably Liverpool's best chance in the first half. Crashed into a couple strong challenges and was booked. Subbed off after an hour.
Sadio Mane - 6

Threatening but lacked conviction in the crunch moments. Came close to equalising but one on one was saved by Emiliano Martinez. Had an even better chance with ten minutes to go when he controlled brilliantly in the box but again his shot was saved.

Mohamed Salah - 6

Quiet by his standards and gave the ball away. Failed to attack an array of inviting crosses from Robertson.

Roberto Firmino - 6

Curled a brilliant effort just wide of the post in the second half but otherwise was quiet. Rhian Brewster could be pushing for his place.

Takumi Minamino - 9

Scored his first Liverpool goal to level the scoring with a tidy finish. Could see how much it elevated his confidence. His Reds career finally up and running.

Naby Keita - 6

Tidy performance but did not have the same kind of impact as Minamino. Gave the ball away in a dangerous area.

Rhian Brewster- 5

Missed his penalty, smashing it off the bar.

Curtis Jones - 7

Scored his penalty under pressure just as he did when netting the winner against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.

According to the Daily Mail, back in January 2018 during talks for Philippe Coutinho, Michael Edwards seized initiate and negotiated a clause with Barcelona which meant they were unable to sign any Liverpool players until 2021.

Should Barca which to break this pact, they would have to pay a £90m premium on top of any potential transfer fee.

This means either Mane or Gini heading to Barcelona is very slim unless they are ready to pay £90m plus especially for Mane it's would cost around £230m...
