This season’s premier league race might not be a smooth run for the Reds because most of the teams in epl are fully aware of the team’s tactical game play and weaknesses.

How do I mean?

Liverpool doesn’t really have a playmaker and as a matter of fact, Alexander Arnold seems to be the key supplier of goal creating chances. Taking a look at Liverpool’s game play throughout last season, they operated basically through the wings, using Arnold and Robertson to whip in crosses which eventually leads to goals. In games where they struggled to win 1-0 or 2-1 margin, you observe that their wing men were being marked tightly. I’m not doubting the fact that Sadio Mane and Mohammed salah are major threats but once the wing game is out of play for the Liverpool team, they tend to suffer. In games where Arnold, Robertson, Mane, and Salah are marked tightly which eventually prevents those dangerous Crosses and passes, Liverpool might loose such game. In synopsis, Liverpool has just one tactical game play.

Most teams didn’t really observe the Liverpool’s strategy last season which is why they had it almost easy. If you watched most of their games against Barcelona at Anfield where they won 4-0, Atletico Madrid where they lost 3-2, Man United, Chelsea and other tough games, they explored the wing tactics.
Now looking at other premier league teams like Chelsea, with the new reinforcements added to the team. Chelsea now have three tactical game play.

How do I mean?

We all know that the epl isn’t like other leagues, epl strikers needs to have the ability to hold up play. i.e ( Ability to guard/hold the ball till a teammate makes runs). This is what Liverpool’s Robert firminho lacks which is why they venture into the wing game play of using Salah, mane, Roberson and Arnold.

But it is now clear to most teams that Liverpool are nothing without their key men (Arnold, salah, mane, Robertson). This is why they lost to Arsenal consecutively and loosing out in the FA community shield. If Liverpool continues the 2020/2021 season same way they did last season, they might end up paying deeply for it and walking alone if Jurgen Klopp doesn’t amend his scores.
