I lived in China (Shanghai) for 5 years and travelled all over the country. I've also lived in England (London and Leeds) and in several cities in the US including Chicago. I've travelled to pretty much every continent from Rio to Paris to Singapore.
When it comes to tall shiny new buildings and infrastructure in general (Road, Rail, Airports...) China wins hands down. No other country comes close in terms of scale. However there is more to a city than just tall soulless new buildings with zero character(cough, cough Dubai).
With that in mind there is no city in China that comes even close to the likes of Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam, New York, Chicago, Tokyo...
