Battle: Dar es Salaam vs Nairobi

Battle: Dar es Salaam vs Nairobi

Wewe ulipata sufuri kwenye somo la geography. Water always flows downhill sasa ukiona maji yanaenda Egypt basi ujuwe huko ndiko kwenye mteremko. Maji hayapandi milima. Ndio maana nazungumza mambo ya kujenga water pipeline kwa sababu unaweza kutumia water pump kusukuma maji yaliyo ndani ya pipeline yapande milima. Turkana na Lake Victoria zipo at a similar elevation sasa maji itaflow vipi? In fact Turkana is slightly higher by 3 metres. Egyptian Nile Delta is very low, it is around 18 metres above sea level. Hio ndio sababu maji yanaflow kuelekea Egypt na sio Turkana.

Kwani kwa akili yako mlima ndio unafanya mshindwe kupeleka maji Turkana kwani mto hauwezi ukakwepa mlima au akili yako inawaza kuwa river itakuwa inaenda straight tuu from lake victoria to Turkana bila meandering?

Sometimes muache excuses and start using your brains.

A request for a license to begin the construction of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) has been submitted to the government of Uganda by the company in charge of the project. According to Martin Tiffen, general manager of EACOP company they are ready to begin construction. The submitted application will be completed in 180 days, or before the end of the year, according to Honey Malinga, acting director of petroleum at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD).
From Kabaale in the Hoima district of Uganda to Chongoleani in the Tanga region of Tanzania, EACOP will cover a distance of 1,443 kilometers. Tanzania will host 1,147 kilometers of the pipeline's total length. In Uganda, the remaining 296 kilometers will pass through 10 districts. Malinga continued by urging the EACOP firm to address the concerns of the authorities, citizens, community leaders, and stakeholders.

Tanzania and Uganda signed the Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) for the connection in May 2017. The Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU)authorized the front-end engineering and design findings (FEED) in October 2020. The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) approved the environmental certificate in December 2020. In February 2022, the parties came to a final investment decision (FID) covering the upstream and midstream parts of the Lake Albert project. With a 62% share, TotalEnergies is the main driver behind the connection. Tanzania Petroleum Development Corp. (TPDC) and Uganda National Oil Co. (UNOC) both have 15% of the market, compared to CNOOC Uganda's 8%.

According to the statement, the pipeline will provide new routes in the area. It claimed that the link would allow access to the East African coast for the eastern Congo cities of Kinshasa, Burundi, Rwanda, and South Sudan. The connection will cost $3.5 billion and transport 216,000 barrels of crude oil daily. The project's partners anticipate funding the project with 60% equity and 40% loan. An NGO opposed to the EACOP project, BankTrack, has hypothesized that Total may lower the amount of loan requested. Along with others, the NGO has tried to persuade banks and financiers to steer clear of the East African initiative.
In May of this year, Bollore Logistics received the primary logistics contract with EACOP. More than 80,000 joints of 18-meter line pipe are among the thousands of cubic meters of material that will be transported under the contract terms. The business will bring the pipe into Tanzania and transport it to a facility in the Nzega area. The facility will offer a coating for thermal insulation there. Bolloré predicted that the project's truck mileage would go over 30 million.

East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project overview
EACOP is a 1,443km crude export pipeline system that will transport Uganda's crude oil from Kabaale - Hoima District in Uganda to a a maritime port facility on the Chongoleani peninsula Tanga in Tanzania. This export system, (296km in Uganda and 1,147km in Tanzania), comprises a 24-inch insulated buried pipeline, six (6) pumping Stations (2 in Uganda and 4 in Tanzania), and a maritime export terminal.
The section in Uganda will traverse 10 districts; Hoima, Kikuube, Kakumiro, Kyankwanzi, Mubende, Gomba, Sembabule, Lwengo, Rakai, and Kyotera; 27 Sub-counties, 3 Town Councils, and 171 villages.
The project's permanent land requirements cover the crude oil pipeline corridor, Above Ground Installations (AGIs) such as pump stations, access roads, and four construction camps and pipe yards. In Uganda, these land requirements total approximately 2,740 acres or approximately 1,109 hectares (ha). Most of this (over 90%) relates to the 30m wide construction corridor for the export pipeline and AGUs, with the remainder for temporary construction facilit

Diplomasia ilitumika tena kipindi kile cha Lowasa akiwa Waziri mkuu kama sijakosea, mwanzo walitaka kuweka ngumu akawaambia ujinga huu ziwa letu halafu tushindwe kutumia maji.

Usinitake evidence tafadhali [emoji3][emoji3][emoji3]

Mkiyataka haya maji ongeeni vizuri na Tanzania kuondoa baadhi ya mashrti yaliyowekwa tangu enzi ya mkoloni ili muweze kupata maji maana msishangae mnaambiwa mnamiliki asilimia ndogo sana ya Ziwa hivyo maji kwenu hayaruhusiwi kuvunwa.

Mkataba ndio kila kitu. Uchunguzeni kwanza kabla hamjachukua hatua yoyote.

Nilikuambia unapenda ligi za kijinga.
Niambie ni wapi Tanganyika you've ever recorded -2 degrees temperature

Same with you, you got water sources from lake victoria yet you are crying here due to hunger why don't you utilise your resources to bring water to northern kenya and for cultivation muondokane na njaa?
That water is guarded by a treaty, the Nile Treaty. Secondly, it is a shared resource so Kenya does not have complete control over it unlike your minerals which are the property of Tanzanians and Tanzanians alone

Acheni unyonge na inaction chukua maji lake victoria and stop complaining here.
Go and do some research about something called the Nile Treaty. All the countries that signed that treaty have gone against it except Kenya

Kenya is hindered by the River Nile Treaty signed I guess before independence which limits countries on Lake Victoria and along the Nile on utilizing or exploiting, as it is a lifeline for Egyptians as far as fresh water and food production is concerned, kuna international laws on that. Though Kenya wants to sign another pact with EAC and other countries that will allow it to use the water, I don't know how far they have gone with it, read sometime back.
All the countries that signed this treaty have all gone against it in one way or another, Tanzania included. I think it's high time we did the same

Kenya is seeking to limit Zambia, Tanzania and Uganda from exporting maize to other countries at its expense in fresh efforts to curb the surge in maize flour prices, ease inflation and the squeeze on household budgets.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya says the country has opened talks with the three countries to guarantee Kenya a share of the maize export to plug the shortfall in supplies.

Crop failure due to poor weather and a shift in the movement of Uganda maize to South Sudan have seen flour prices rocket to a record high of Ksh210 ($1.78) for a two-kilo packet, up from Ksh120 ($1.02) at the start of the year.

This has triggered a rally in inflation to a 58-month high of 7.9 percent and forced families to skip meals and cut orders for other items like airtime and beer.

Now, Kenya is seeking a solution from neighbouring countries to boost supply ahead of the harvest season that starts in October.

“We are now talking to these countries to have them set aside some stocks of maize to be purchased by our traders to boost supply locally,” said Mr Munya.

Zambia has started harvesting its main crop while Tanzania and Uganda have surpluses that Kenya is seeking to tap.

Kenya traditionally receives imports from Uganda and Tanzania, but trade flows in the grain have shifted to other countries.

The bulk of Ugandan maize is now heading to South Sudan, encouraged by higher prices in the country relative to Kenya where a 90-kilo bag is selling at Ksh7,000 ($59.27) from Ksh2,800 ($23.71) in January.

Countries in the region are competing for a limited white maize stock for both human consumption and manufacturing of animal feeds following disruption in the supply of the grain from Ukraine and Russia in the wake of the ongoing war between these two countries.

Mr Munya also said the government would intervene in logistical challenges faced by business people in shipping the produce, which has seen the cost of transport more than double.

A 90-kilo bag of maize is selling at around Ksh3,000 ($25.40) in Zambia but it gets to Kenya at Ksh6,000 ($50.80) because of the high cost of transport and other levies involved in the shipment.

Transporters are charging Ksh1,500 ($12.70) for a single bag of maize from either Malawi or Zambia from Ksh600 previously, pushing the landing cost of a 90-kilo bag to Ksh6,000 ($50.80) when it gets to Nairobi.

The announcement comes just days after millers asked the State to open direct government talks with the regional countries to have them set aside some stocks of maize for Kenya.

The Tanzanian government last month doubled the cost of export permits by 93 percent. The authorities increased the cost of acquiring the licence from Ksh27,000 ($228.62) per truck previously to Ksh52,000 ($440.30) currently, according to border officials.

The Treasury opened the import window in May to allow millers to bring in maize from outside of Africa duty-free. However, the processors said they could not ship the commodity because of scarcity and high prices in the international market.

The government was banking on imports from outside of Africa to curb the soaring cost of flour, which has been steadily rising since April this year.
