Speaking after signing a memorandum of understanding with Air Tanzania Company Limited in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Prof Mganilwa said the main objective of the MoU which was initially signed in 2012, is to enable the two institutions collaborate in improving the aviation industry.

Prof Mganilwa who accompanied members of NIT Governing Council who visited ATCL headquarters further noted that the deal will allow the state airliner’s personnel get training at NIT but also for ATCL to recruit graduates of the institute.

“We have agreed to conclude the MoU that was initiated in 2012 between NIT and ATCL. Under the agreement, NIT will deal more with the theoretical aspects, the engineering component, while on the other hand the ATCL will deal with the practical side, the flying aspect,” he stated.

The NIT chief further noted that the institute is well positioned to training aviation transport experts hence the cooperation with the ATCL will help fill gaps which the state carrier has and which have since been identified.

ATCL will assist NIT’s School of Aviation and Technology produce more professionals who will support operations of the national flag carrier. "Today, ATCL has 575 employees but after two or three years it will need more than 1,000 who will mostly be Tanzanians,” he forecasted.

NIT established the School of Aviation Technology in 2015 with two departments, namely; Departments of Flying and Operations Management and that of Aeronautical Engineering.

Prof Mganilwa further added that NIT has already announced a tender for purchasing training aircrafts with initial communication with manufacturer of two Cessna 172 Skyhawks who will supply the planes for pilots training. The Pilot Training Base is expected to start in Dodoma and then later establish a bigger base at the Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA).

“We have secured U$D 21,250,000 from the World Bank aiming at establishing a centre of excellence in aviation and transport operations (CEATO),” he said.

Briefing the NIT delegation, ATCL’s acting Managing Director, Captain Said Hamad paid tribute to NIT’s Governing Council for the fruitful collaboration which will help the country’s aviation industry. "We have decided to work together and coordinate efforts that will enable NIT to produce a young generation of aviation personnel needed by ATCL," Capt Hamad said.
Ethiopian airlines pia ina many simulators. Nyinyi makabuku hamuwezi kutrain pilots wenu maana hamna simulator hata moja ya aina yoyote ya ndege. Mtazidi kuwapeleka Ethiopia hadi ile siku mtakapo nunua simulators

TAA’s Julius Nyerere International Airport Manager, Paulo Rwegasha said the airports landlord’s Director General fully backs the course which is aimed at producing skilled manpower for the task at a time when there is shortage in the market.

Rwegasha said TAA will make sure that the course brings productivity and improves safety of passengers and cargo in the interest of the whole nation. He congratulated NIT management for launching the course which aligns well with plans of the government to boost aviation industry.

“It is my belief that transport stakeholders particularly in airports will use this opportunity to train their people at the Institute,” he said adding that Tanzanians who get a chance to participate in the course, will be good ambassadors for NIT as they will use new skills in protecting aviation infrastructures.

Citing, Rwegasha said the government has purchased 11 new planes of which eight have already been received while also investing in the construction and expansion or airports across the country to rejuvenate the aviation industry.

He said massive investments have been made at JNIA’s Terminal III, Kilimanjaro International Airport and Mwanza International Airport while a new airport is coming up at Msalato in Dodoma, among many others. “Once completed, the airports will increase the number of flights and passenger mobility but also cargo hence need more qualified people to drive utility vehicles,” Rwegasha noted.

On his part, Chairman of NIT Governing Council, Prof Blasius Nyichomba said launching of the course is part of implementation of the institute's plans in line with various policies as stipulated in the country’s Vision 2025.
