His Excellency, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi on Wednesday presided over the Official Commissioning of the Bakhresa Solvent Extraction Plant and Cooking Oil Refinery in Limbe, Blantyre.

The investment - a significant boost to Malawi’s industrialization drive - is expected to stimulate large scale farming across the country and encourage crop diversification, with emphasis on Soy bean production, due to the demand from Bakhresa.

In addition the introduction of the new facility is also expected to drive market competition, in terms of cooking oil production, which in turn should influence favorable pricing of the commodity, for the average consumer.

Also present at the commissioning were Minister of Trade Hon. Vitumbiko Mumba; Minister of Information, Hon. Moses Kunkuyu among other officials.

His Excellency is seen here touring the facility, led by Mr. Venkatesh Rao Pattipati, General Manager, Bakhresa Malawi Limited https://bakhresa.com/, before officially launching the plant at a corporate event on the premises.

President Chakwera is in the Southern Region where he will be undertaking official government duties.
