Ethiopia has come a long way .. like a phoenix rising. They need to promote these images internationally. The old Ethiopian stereotypes still exist in America. Kind of sad. It’s not uncommon to hear an American joking… “ today am starvin like an Ethiopian “…. Meaning they are real hungry. This based on the infamous famine in the 80s that almost wiped out Ethiopia and Michael Jackson and Hollywood had to raise awareness for Americans to save Ethiopia… ( the song, “we are the world”) Millions were raised . so that’s still the image that has been passed down to next generation… even the famous cartoon South Park had a character named Starvin Marvin ( an Ethiopian boy delivered to South Park by mistake )… I hated that character though funny.
