RIU | June 20, 2022The hotel Riu Jambo has an unbeatable location in the north of Zanzibar’s largest island, Unguja, on the idyllic Nungwi beach. The 4-star, 24-hour all-inclusive hotel has a total of 461 rooms. The main feature that sets it apart from other RIU hotels is the stilted structure that stretches out from the beach over the sea, where guests will find some of the hotel’s dining services. The new Riu Jambo is right next to the Riu Palace Zanzibar, which was refurbished in 2019 and has luxurious facilities. This new opening enhances the chain’s range of hotels in the destination with an establishment where guests can enjoy a family holiday.
The main building, with five and six floors, houses the hotel’s reception and most of the rooms. It boasts a spectacular façade with murals inspired by African culture, and several of its towers are crowned with masks. Sustainability and energy efficiency also play an important role in this building. The lobby is completely open-plan with natural cross ventilation and plenty of natural light thanks to numerous openings, which also allow customers to see different areas of the hotel and the amazing views from the moment they arrive. Apart from its impressive height, the main showpiece in this area is a large skylight in the middle of the lobby. Natural materials are used in the furniture, decoration, floors and coverings alike.
The hotel has 461 rooms, 93 of which are at ground level on the seafront. These rooms are staggered so as to not obstruct views of the surrounding landscape. They are all fully equipped to ensure that customers enjoy maximum comfort during their stay. The rooms are decorated in earthy tones and wood once again plays a central role. This combination, along with paintings of typical Tanzanian scenes, creates a welcoming atmosphere.
The hotel has a unique dining area on a stilted structure. It is an original wooden construction that is accessed by a walkway and stretches out over the sea. Two of the hotel’s three restaurants are located here — the Italian restaurant “il Panzotto” and the fusion restaurant “Kulinarium” — as well as the “Bahari” bar. Customers will be able to enjoy an exquisite dinner or savour a delicious cocktail over the beautiful waters of Zanzibar with spectacular panoramic views. The hotel also has an Asian restaurant, “Yunnan”, and the main restaurant, “Maisha”, with a terrace and international cuisine. Guests will also find the “Bongo Flava” lounge bar with a terrace and the “Hakuna Matata” pool bar with a swim-up bar, as well as “Rafiki”, a snack bar on the beach.
Customers will find a total of five pools in the hotel’s outdoor areas, one of which is exclusively for children. As for entertainment, there is a RiuLand children’s club, with RiuArt and RiuFit areas. What’s more, guests will be able to unwind in the spa area located next to the gym or try out water sports with Scuba Caribe.
The plot where this new establishment has been built was previously home to the La Gema dell’Est hotel, which RIU bought in 2019. Certain elements of the previous hotel have been maintained, such as the spectacular stilted structure.

RIU Hotels & Resorts announced the opening of Riu Palace Zanzibar, which was purchased by the chain last year and now, following its complete renovation, is opening its doors again.
It was the first hotel that RIU acquired in this destination where, as its CEO Luis Riu explains, the company is committed to strengthening its presence: “Zanzibar is a very attractive destination to our customers, so we are making a major investment there and we are committed to expanding our presence. As well as renovating, we have increased the capacity of this hotel, which is located right next to the newly acquired La Gemma dell’Est, whose refurbishment is scheduled to start in the next few months.”
The hotel chain committed to a complete overhaul of the hotel, including a 100-room extension. The hotel will now have 200 perfectly equipped rooms, designed with subtle nods to the destination’s flora and fauna, allowing guests to feel like they are deep in the jungle, but with all the comforts of a 5-star hotel. The villas with private pools are perfect for people who want to totally unwind on their holidays.
The new Riu Palace Zanzibar includes new buildings, and their façades are designed in a way that maintains the typical language of African architecture in order to harmonise with the pre-existing buildings. Inside, the communal areas such as the lobby are decorated in earth tones and exotic colours. The hotel’s outdoor space offers a spectacular garden that envelops the hotel, together with the immensity of the strikingly blue sea.
The complex is part of the exclusive Adults-Only by RIU line. Guests can enjoy RIU’s fantastic all-inclusive service which, at this hotel, lets them try out four restaurants: the main restaurant Promenade; the fusion restaurant Krystal; the Beef Steak House and the romantic restaurant Open Air; as well as the grill bar Pepe’s Food, located by the pool. It also offers a total of three bars, one in the pool and one by the beach, as well as Ginger coffee bar.
The hotel has access to a private area of the beach where guests can enjoy the full splendour of the extraordinary Indian Ocean. Nungwi beach offers crystalline turquoise waters with white sand, and RIU provides sun loungers and umbrellas only for guests.

Najua likija kwenye maandishi yupo sawa. Matamshi yake yanaweza kuwa yameathirika na lugha ya mama lakini hio haimaanishi kwamba hata kwa uandishi bado anaandika maneno kimakosa. Nikiwa high school kuna kijana alikuwa ameathirika vibaya sana na lugha ya mama kimatamshi, lakini alikuwa genius, anapata grade A kwenye somo karibu zote ikiwemo somo za lugha ya Kiingereza na Kiswahili. Akiongea hakuna makosa ya ngeli ila anatamka maneno visivyo. Kwa mfano alikuwa anachanganya R na L sana. Matamshi yanaweza kuwa mabaya lakini maandishi yakawa mazuri hata kushinda ya mwenyeji wa lugha hio.
