On December 18, Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa inspected the Victoria Lake Bridge project built by the China Railway 15th Bureau Group 3 Company and announced that the
bridge was officially named after the current Tanzanian President Magufuli
. This is also
the second bridge named after the president undertaken by the China Railway 15th Bureau
in Tanzania. The first is the Kilombero Bridge, which was completed in 2017. After completion, it was renamed the Magufuli Bridge in May 2018.

The Lake Victoria Bridge project is located in the Mwanza province of northern Tanzania. The project is a major livelihood project fully funded by the Tanzanian government, and the largest spot foreign exchange project contracted by the Tanzania National Highway Administration since its establishment. After the bridge is completed, it will become
the longest long bridge in
East Africa and the longest cable-stayed bridge with low towers in Africa. It will connect Mwanza and Getta provinces. It will greatly shorten the transportation time between the two sides of the strait and accelerate the economic development of Lake Victoria.
