The two leaders appeared cordial as they met in Harare today

South African President Thabo Mbeki has called for patience over unreleased poll results in Zimbabwe, after talks with its president, Robert Mugabe.

The two men met after Mr Mugabe said he would not attend a regional summit in Zambia aimed at ending deadlock over presidential elections two weeks ago. Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai says he won the vote, and hopes leaders will pressure Mr Mugabe to step down. Despite growing tensions, Mr Mbeki said there was "no crisis" in Zimbabwe. ..........................

Kitila,

Jeshi limeshasema haliwezi kukubali matokeo yoyote ambayo Mugabe hatashinda.

"at least to set the record straight"

Kulikuwa kweli kuna haja gani ya hawa waheshimiwa kukutana Zambia? Si wangebakia tu nyumbani na kutoa matamko haya haya bila kuingia gharama yote hii?

SADC nao wameogopa kumwambia ukweli matokeo yake wanambembeleza Morgan matokeo yakitangazwa akubaliane nayo.

Sadc nao wameogopa kumwambia ukweli, bado wanambembeleza kutangaza matokeo

Hivi nini kinaendelea huko Zimbabwe....wameshapata mshindi?

Huko mambo bado magumu sana. Mshindi hajapatikana.

Zimbabwe could be added to UN Security Council's Africa summit
Monsters and Critics

Apr 15, 2008, 18:35 GMT

New York - Zimbabwe's unresolved presidential election outcome is not on the agenda of the UN Security Council's African summit on Wednesday, but could be placed there if the world's powers want to debate the issue, the council president said Tuesday.

The African summit at UN headquarters in New York is to be presided over by South African President Thabo Mbeki, whose mediation in settling the dispute in Zimbabwe's presidential vote count has been criticized for being biased in favour of President Robert Mugabe.

Mbeki's Ambassador to the UN Dumisani Kumalo said Zimbabwe was not on the council's agenda. But he said the United States, Britain and France, three of the five veto-wielding permanent members, could raise the issue during the two-day African debate.

'Those are huge countries,' Kumalo said. 'They can raise whatever they want to raise and all I have said was that we don't expect Zimbabwe to be discussed tomorrow (Wednesday). But they can raise anything.' Zimbabwe's electoral commission has refused to make public results of the first round of presidential elections held last month and has called for a
run-off vote. The opposition said it has won the elections.

Mbeki and the presidents of Ivory Coast, Somalia and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and a number of deputy ministers and ambassadors will attend the council's African meeting to discuss ways to strengthen the working relationship between the UN and the African Union.

Mugabe is waiting to take the next move.........

Mugabe rival sets run-off terms

The MDC says Morgan Tsvangirai won the presidential vote

Zimbabwean opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai will not contest a run-off election unless certain conditions are met, a spokesman for his party says. Mr Tsvangirai's party, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), believes he won last month's election against President Robert Mugabe outright.

MDC spokesman George Sibotshiwe said a secure environment had to exist first, with thorough international monitoring. But current conditions did not allow for a free and fair vote, he said. The party would only take part if the Southern African Development Community could help oversee every stage of the count, he added.
Earlier, a national strike called by the MDC to demand that results from the 29 March election be published immediately received little apparent support.

Dire economy

Reports from the capital, Harare, said most banks, shops and offices opened as usual. The BBC's Peter Biles in Johannesburg says a strike call was never likely to be heeded by many workers, such is the desperate state of Zimbabwe's economy.

Meanwhile in South Africa, the governing African National Congress has made its boldest statement so far on Zimbabwe, saying it regards the situation in the country as "dire". Zimbabwe's election commission says it cannot release the results of the presidential election until a partial recount is completed at the weekend. Independent counts suggested that Mr Tsvangirai won the election but took less than 50% of the vote, meaning he would face a run-off. The MDC had previously said it would not take part in a run-off because it might lead to violence and the intimidation of the party's supporters around the country. MDC Secretary General Tendai Biti told the BBC on Tuesday that two of its activists had been killed and 200 hospitalised after being assaulted by ruling party militias.
The party has said its supporters have been beaten up in rural areas where the MDC won.

On Monday, Zimbabwe's High Court dismissed an opposition petition for the results to be released immediately, saying reported anomalies should first be investigated. In last month's elections Mr Mugabe's Zanu-PF lost its parliamentary majority for the first time during his 28-year rule. But the party could recover that majority if it is awarded just nine of the 23 seats subject to a recount.

Mfano wa uchaguzi umeomekana Italy ambako Silvio amerudi madarakani na uchaguzi umefanyika just over the weekend.
