It’s not insane to question Erik ten Hag’s methodology this season. He should not be untouchable, nor on the other hand should he be blamed for everything. There is a middle ground, which I adhere to myself.

Few issues I have with Erik’s approach;

— Reactiveness to opposition, irrespective of their qualitative levels compared to ours. Fluid game model is acceptable, but principles should not be broken.

— Patterns of play: what is our identity? what is HIS ideology? what football do we generate?

— Rest defence/pressing structure; middle third of our press is totally subpar. FBs do not back up the press. Disjointed, lack of cohesiveness in the structure. Players being tasked to cover abnormal amounts of space.

— In-game management/team selections: sometimes, the subs are perfect. Eriksen vs Copenhagen was a masterstroke of a decision. However, that is massively outweighed by the bad. Why has Mount been benched three games in a row? Why is Varane being on the bench for Evans a ‘tactical decision’?

Is there more pertinent issues at the club? Definitely. He should not be sacked now. Wait for the new footballing structure to come in, then make the call. But I am not sure what the long-term outlook is right now. He could turn it around, but it requires an overhaul of his current approach. I am willing to be patient with a manager if I see an end goal, a clear vision — ideology is central.
