Wakoloni waliondoka Kenya in 1963.
The building came into existence in 1975. KICC was Commissioned by Jomo Kenyatta designed by Kenyan architect Engineer NGILU in consultation with David Mutiso the first African architect. Wakoloni umetoka wapi nao tena ama uko na kichaa![]()

Here's a list of just 68 TV stations. Not counting the companies on the list. However, I can see quite a number are missing, guess these are only members of Media Council because even the national broadcaster KBC is not on the list. Other big stations like Citizen, Ebru, Inooro, Switch are not on the list too

Sasa sabab ile tpa ilidesigniwa na mkenya so kenya owns tanzania? What a pathetic way of thinking.Acha kudanganya watu, hapa ni JamiiForums. Architect Karl Henrik Nøstvik ndiye sifa zote ziende kwake na siyo David Mutiso.
The Kenyatta International Conference Centre, whose pink cylindrical shaft towers above Nairobi, was initiated by the country’s first president, Jomo Kenyatta, as a lavish new HQ for his ruling Kanu party. At 32 storeys, it was by far the tallest structure in east Africa until the 1990s, a big column for Kenya’s big-man chieftain. Yet its great size can be credited to an accident of international intervention.
It was the work of Norwegian architect Karl Henrik Nøstvik, who had been sent to Kenya as part of the Norwegian aid package and proved attractive to Kenyatta, being from a country without a murky colonial past. Scandinavian architects loom large in the period for this reason, bringing their mastery of expressive concrete and sculpting with light – but mercifully freed, in the tropics, from the pesky northern European necessities of windows and insulation. In Africa, the inside-outside dream could finally be realised – and so European modernists let rip

Unmistakable against Nairobi’s skyline, the tower of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre has for decades given Kenya’s capital an unquestionable identity.
Founding president Jomo Kenyatta laid the foundation stone in December 1967. The building itself was completed in time for a global meeting of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund in September 1973.
Fast-forward to October 2018, when Kenyan architect David Mutiso set social media alight with a yet-unheard claim that the iconic building “was inspired by a donkey’s penis”. In the same interview with Citizen TV, Mutiso also said he had designed the KICC.
Given the resulting general incredulity and questionsabout the history of the building, Africa Check set off for the archives.
Who designed the KICC?
On its website, the KICC says the building was “designed by the Norwegian architect Karl Henrik Nøstvik and our own David Mutiso”.
Geneva-based architect and urban researcher, Prof Manuel Herz, said the iconic building “went through two distinct planning phases”. Herz and Shadi Rahbaran, his colleague at ETH Basel Studio, authored Nairobi, Kenya: Migration Shaping the City, which deals in part with the history of the KICC.
“In the first phase (until approximately 1970), the planning office of the Ministry of Works was the lead agency of the design,” Herz told Africa Check.
Mutiso was then the chief architect at the Ministry of Works, with Nøstvik working under him.
“The blueprints from these years state that Karl Nøstvik was responsible for the design,” Herz said. “At the end of 1970, Nøstvik left the Ministry of Works and opened his own private architectural practice in Nairobi. In the second planning phase, the KICC was designed in the private practice of Nøstvik.”
(Note: Herz’s account is consistent with architectural drawings Africa Check has obtained from the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Oslo, Norway.)

Incat Crowther is pleased to announce the launch of Kilimanjaro VII, a 45m catamaran passenger ferry for Azam Marine of Tanzania, Africa. This vessel is the tenth vessel designed by Incat Crowther for the operator, and the seventh vessel built for the operator by Richardson Devine Marine.
The 500-passenger, 35 knot vessel features the operator’s trademark parallel boarding system, whereby five ramps per side load passenger and cargo in segregated flows. VIP and Royal Class passengers board into a discreet stair tower directly to the upper deck cabin, whilst economy passengers load separately aft and midships. The fifth ramp is dedicated to luggage trolley movements. The boarding system ensures passenger classes and luggage trolleys are segregated, reducing turnaround time and improving safety, whilst promoting exclusivity for the higher yield passengers.
The vessel seats 224 passengers in its main deck economy cabin, 72 VIP passengers and 18 Royal Class passengers in full lie flat seats on the mid deck, with the remainder being economy passengers in separate areas over three decks. A major enhancement from earlier vessels is the relocation of the wheelhouse to the third deck. This configuration results in panoramic windows forward on the mid deck, creating a class-leading experience for occupants of this high-revenue space.
The luggage room houses up to 10 tonnes of luggage and cargo, whilst IMO HSC code-compliant stability enhances her safety credentials.
Kilimanjaro VII is the first fast passenger vessel to use a pair of Cummins QSK95-M main engines, although Incat Crowther is familiar with this model, having utilised them in recent offshore deliveries. In this specific project, the large twin engine solution is an effective way of providing more speed whilst avoiding the through-life cost and complexity of a four-engine power train. Engine room accessibility is improved over a four-engine arrangement, and maintenance and operational requirements are reduced. Additional dividends are realized in the routing and a reduction in the duplicity of systems.
Kilimanjaro VII excelled in sea trials, operating at a fully loaded speed of 30 knots at low proportion of MCR to offer very long engine life. She has a top speed in excess of 37 knots and has proven extremely smooth and quiet.
This latest design further demonstrates the deep operational understanding Incat Crowther shares with its clients. Part of Azam Marine’s enormous success has been based on the vessels being fuel efficient, reliable and simple to maintain, a crucial trait in Africa.
