The 'soul' in this context refers to the historical and cultural heritage of our country related to the building.

The name of the building, 'IKULU' comes from the word 'MAKULU' in kigogo (a bantu language of the natives of Dodoma, which means the residency of Mtemi or Chief). That building is a blend of both African and Arabic architecture reflecting the people of the coastal area.

During the WWI, it was bombed to the ground and later rebuilt by the British. Every section has some historic background and soul to it, from the original central block, the Princess Margaret wing, all the way to the Kikwete building. You're just mad because yours (in Nairobi) don't even have a native name to it, no soul.

Pia wanatumia neno kung'atuka bila kujua lina historia na Nyerere (from Zanaki tribe) kuondoka madarakani lakini bado watasema kiswahili ni chao 😁😁

Ikulu is a key bantu word that means 'Heaven' or 'High Place' or 'Palace' or 'residence of the King/God'. Almost every Bantu language has it. The fact that Bongolalas are mesmerised by it trying to create a stupid nationalism about it is just laughable. Here are versions of the word Ikulu from various Bantu languages that mean 'high place' or 'residence of the King/God' in case anyone felt like feeling special.

Luhya (Middle Dialect) - Ikulu/Mwikulu
Luhya (Southern Dialect) - Iguru (Mwiguru)
Kikuyu - Iguru
Kiganda - Eggulu
Kinyarwanda - Ijuru
Zulu - Izulu
Xhosa - Izulwini
Kikamba - Ihulu
Kikisii - Iguru
Sukuma - Ikulu

Here is Rufftone's song done in English and Luhya titled Mwikulu to mean Heaven.
