Nimesafiri na SGR from Mombasa to Nairobi, inafika 116km/h, wacha porojo, kila coach has a small digital screen above the corridor entrance showing moving speed., and I was watching it, the train was running between 95 and 116KM/h.., averagely., inachezea 105 to 110 sana sana., so wewe ni muongo., kaulize yeyote ambaye ametumia SGR.,

Na kuna wakati inashuka hadi 75km/h., I guess coz of timing ile inayotoka Nairobi, maana kuna mahali zinapishana, lazima zifike pale kwa pamoja., but nadhani kama hakuna oncoming train., from Nairobi to Mombasa and vice versa mwendo inaeza kuchukua around 3 hours..,

Uko sahihi, considering the 480KM.., lazima zifike kwa passing loop at around the same time.., timing ni key.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has spent nearly Sh1.5 trillion to build roads since 2013, leaving behind about 11,000 kilometres of thoroughfares to his credit. A review shows that the Jubilee administration spent Sh1.44 trillion on roads between June 2013 and March 2022.

Data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) show that the expenditure on roads rose from Sh87.6 billion in 2013 to over Sh207 billion by last year.

The highest spending was recorded between 2017 and 2022, where the government splashed over Sh951 billion, compared to the Sh490 billion spent during the first term, as the President rushed against time to leave behind a strong legacy. During the 2021/2022 financial year the government spent a total of Sh186.9 billion on roads in the first nine months.

“An analysis of programme performance shows that the road transport programme ... recorded the highest proportion of programme expenditure to its gross estimates (Sh195.2 billion) at 95.8 percent,” stated the office of the Controller of Budget (CoB) in its report on national government budget implementation between July 2021 and March 2022.
The government had last year budgeted Sh195.2 billion for road transport in the financial year 2021/22, including Sh94.7 billion for new roads and bridges, Sh36.1 billion for rehabilitation of old ones, and Sh54 billion for maintenance. By end of March, Sh101.17 billion in development spending and Sh85.76 recurrent spending had already been recorded, CoB reported.
The President’s Delivery Unit (PDU), on its website, states that over 2,000km of inter-city highways are under construction, another 500km are being procured, while 500km of urban roads are under different stages of construction or procurement.

“The rural arteries road have also seen investment to build over 3,500km in different parts of the country. Another 2,500km are at advanced stages of procurement,” PDU states. The President, during the Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1, said he had built more roads than all other administrations before him, transforming the country “one kilometre at a time.”

Available KNBS data show that between 2005 and 2013, President Kibaki spent Sh474.9 billion on roads, about a third (34.8 per cent) of President Kenyatta’s spending. During his last two years in office, President Kenyatta will have spent an amount equivalent to what President Kibaki spent on roads over eight years.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has defended Canada's decision to return a turbine used in a pipeline that carries natural gas from Russia to Germany.
He said it was a "very difficult decision" to return the Russian-owned turbine despite sanctions.

Ukraine has accused Canada of wavering to Russia, but Mr Trudeau reiterated his government's support for Kyiv.

He also accused the Kremlin of weaponising its energy sector to undermine Ukraine's allies.

On Saturday, Canada announced the controversial decision to release the turbine that had been stranded in a repair facility in the city of Montreal.
It prompted an angry backlash from some Ukrainians, including from a group representing the Ukrainian diaspora that said it would seek a judicial review of the decision.

Ukraine's government also accused Canada of adjusting sanctions "to the whims of Russia" and called for the decision to be reversed.

Russia's energy sector forms a critical part of its economy and has been a target of international sanctions since Moscow's invasion of neighbouring Ukraine earlier this year.

"I remind people that the sanctions that Canada is leading on, that we continue to push harder and harder, are aimed at Putin and his enablers and aren't designed to harm our allies and their populations," Mr Trudeau told reporters on Wednesday.

Canada plans to return the turbine for the gas pipeline to German energy company Siemens, granting it a "time-limited and revocable permit" despite sanctions put in place by Western nations against Russia.

The turbine would then be returned from Germany to Russia. Mr Trudeau confirmed on Wednesday the exemption is applicable for two years.
The turbine is part of the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, which supplies gas from Russia to Germany. Russia said the pipeline has been operating at 40% capacity due to missing equipment.

Germany has expressed fears of an energy shortage due to its over-reliance on Russian gas, especially with winter months approaching.

On Tuesday, the Toronto-based Ukrainian World Congress filed an application for judicial review with a Canadian court seeking to quash the exemption so that the turbine could no longer be returned.

"We have had no choice but to take legal action," it said in a statement.
The US state department, however, has supported Canada's decision, saying it will allow Germany and other European countries to replenish their gas reserves while increasing their energy security.

As of Wednesday, Kremlin-controlled energy company Gazprom said it had no documentation to show that Siemens is permitted to bring the gas turbine for the Nord 1 Stream pipeline from Canada.

Siemens, however, announced it was now in the planning stages of transporting and deploying the turbine.
