Cha ajabu ni kwamba nchi za uarabuni zina afadhali kuliko Kenya kwenye suala la maji, yani Kenya ndugu yake ni Sudan kusini.

In Tanzania, WASH-sensitive indicators such as diarrhoea and stunting are high. Campaigns to encourage simple hygiene practices like washing hands with soap can reduce the incidence of diarrhoea by an estimated 47 per cent while use of proper sanitation can reduce cases of diarrhoea by an estimated 36 per cent. Poor access to WASH has an unaffordably high cost, wasting resources that could be used for furthering the country's development agenda. It is estimated that Tanzania spends 70 per cent of its health budget on preventable WASH-related diseases as the majority of the population does not have access to improved sanitation, and close to half of the population does not have access to clean drinking water. Without adequate WASH facilities, homes, schools and health centres become breeding grounds for diseases that kill children and threaten their ability to grow. Girls, children with disabilities and children living in rural areas are most affected. This further heightens inequities and uneven opportunities for development. The impact of poor WASH on children living in crisis situations also affects their chances of survival.
WaterAid is an NGO that aims to aid countries in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and Central America. Its goal is to provide water, sanitation and education to impoverished areas. WaterAid has been able to provide clean water to 17.5 million people. Furthermore, it has been able to improve sanitary conditions for 12.9 million people.

In Tanzania, this organization has successfully supplied 1.5 million people with water solutions and 97,000 people with better sanitation. Additionally, WaterAid focuses on delivery and advocacy. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of rallying support for policies that aid those living without sanitary water or sanitation services. This NGO’s goal is to provide water solutions for vulnerable communities in Tanzania by creating low-cost, sustainable projects.
Despite being on course to become a middle-income country, it is also a place of extreme poverty. Nearly half of all people in Tanzania have no clean water, and only about a third have a decent toilet.

We will help change this by working with the Government, providing expert training and support to local authorities. We will bring in our specialist partners in education, gender, disabilities and the environment. Together we will make clean water, toilets and hygiene normal for everyone in Tanzania.
