1-The power companies in the United States are not owned by government at any level. However, power distribution is thought of as being best accomplished by a natural monopoly (single infrastructure, single cable going to each home)
2-British Gas was privatised in 1986 under Margaret Thatcher's government, while the first parts of the electricity sector were privatised in late 1990, when the 12 regional electricity companies in England and Wales were sold. Later, the Scottish industry was sold, as were the generating businesses, National Power and Powergen and also the National Grid. The National Grid's main business is moving electricity and gas around the country. This is known as transmission. The very last leg of the journey into people's homes and businesses - known as distribution - is done by a number of different companies.

4-South Africa is seeking additional electricity from private contractors as government moves to address longstanding power outages. Government has asked the companies it previously contracted to supply electricity.
5-The Ugandan government provides an enabling environment for private sector investments in generation and distribution of electricity while transmission above 33kV remains a public function through the Uganda Electricity Transmission.
6-In order to encourage the private sector to produce electricity from renewable energy sources, Egypt has issued the new Renewable Energy Law no. 203 of 2014. Article two of the Renewable Energy Law adopted several development schemes for the private development of renewable energy.
