I have been proved wrong.
Earlier this season after VVD got injured, my thinking became like one of those "top reds" - believing that Klopp's mere presence at Anfield would miraculously clinch us the league this season. How did I get that so wrong!
With the currently stretched resources at his disposal, I suggest Klopp should be "knighted" if he makes the top 4 this season.
Thiago's recruitment (which I personally disapproved right from the outset having seen how the BFC & LFC playstyles differ) was more of a "political ploy to please the 'voters'" than adding substance because it's all well documented on how Klopp wants his midfield to play - and Thiago doesn't fit that template and it's showing!
Thiago is not the only problem though. We have got problems all over the kitchen. A non-conventional backline (led by midfielders) is one. Lack of the relentless graft in the midfield that we are used to is another.
But there's this inconsistent strikeforce, especially our wayward # 9.
It's very unfortunate that Jota has been injured at a time when he's needed most. Our accustomed front 3 appear to be wearing out and it's inevitable if you historically look back at the EPL front 3 trend since 2004 (see below).
All the previous renown front 3s were able to effectively function together for 2.5 years average at best. Ours have managed to surpass that mark as the table below suggests - so one has to understand how that must have affected their performances!
