Bets on Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge's move to West Brom form part of FA probe.


Reds frontman hit by misconduct charge.

Wagers placed on Daniel Sturridge moving to West Brom on loan back in January are understood to form part of the Football Association's investigation into alleged breaches of betting rules.

The Liverpool striker has been hit with a misconduct charge and has until November 20 to respond.


Sturridge is adamant that he has “never gambled on football”, but even if that's proved to be true he could still be punished if the FA conclude that he passed on information for others to place bets.

He could be hit with a hefty fine and/or a suspension depending on the severity of the breach.


Neither Liverpool nor the FA have revealed the exact nature of the allegations but they have confirmed that they relate to January 2018.

The ECHO understands that on January 28 bookies received a flurry of bets on Sturridge joining the Baggies on loan.

At the time Inter Milan had been the favourites to sign him until the end of the season, but in the space of 24 hours Paddy Power slashed the odds on him going to West Brom from 66/1 to 5/2.


The following day Sturridge completed his move to struggling West Brom for a loan fee of £2million after snubbing interest from Newcastle United.

Sturridge endured an injury-ravaged spell in the Midlands which culminated in the Baggies being relegated from the top-flight.

He returned to Liverpool last summer and successfully forced his way back into Jurgen Klopp's plans. He has scored four goals in 12 appearances so far this term.

VIRGIL VAN DIJK has revealed his Holland team-mate Matthijs de Ligt will be on Liverpool’s transfer wishlist.

The Reds are having a fine season under Jurgen Klopp this time out.

Liverpool currently remain unbeaten in the Premier League after 12 games, with the Reds just two points behind leaders Manchester City.

Klopp could look to bolster his squad in the January transfer window as Liverpool eye their first Premier League title.

And Van Dijk, who joined Liverpool in January for a club-record £75m, says his Dutch team-mate De Ligt could be on their radar.

"He is already very far [ahead], especially at that age,” Van Dijk told De Telegraaf about the Ajax centre-half.

"A good defender, good boy, calm, knows what he wants and hopefully he makes the right choice in his next step.”

When pressed whether De Ligt’s next club could be Liverpool, Van Dijk said: "He will be on the list, because they have enough scouts at the club.”

De Ligt has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United also in the hunt for the 19-year-old defender.

The 29-year-old Austrian international is desperate to ditch West Ham who joined in July 2017 for £24m in other to compete and win big trophies.

Now at the peak of his career and scoring goals for fun, Arnautovic wants to join Liverpool and prove he can compete with Firmino and Sturridge..

"I'm 29, so that's the best age", Arnautovic told Kurier.

"It's clear that i want to compete with the best players. But in this affair i totally trust my brother'.

His brother Danijel happens to be his agent and has reportedly reached verbal agreement with Liverpool who going to sell Origi this January and will need replacement.

Arnautovic has scored 5 goals with 1 assist in 11 appearance for West Ham this season.
