With defensive midfield star Nemanja Matic suspended for the League Cup final thanks to his controversial red card against Burnley, Jose Mourinho had a big hole to replace in his starting lineup.

He went an unexpected route.

The Chelsea boss chose 20-year-old center-back Kurt Zouma to fill Matic's shoes, and boy did he have himself a game at Wembley. Playing in front of the back four, he put in a composed performance, effectively cutting Harry Kane off from the rest of the Spurs squad.

"It's very difficult for a central defender to play there, because they don't have pressure from behind," Mourinho said. "In that position you are surrounded by players and you have to think quicker. He's our new Marcel Desailly."

That's quite high praise for Zouma, as Mourinho referred back to former Ghanan who made 158 league appearances for Chelsea from 1998-2004 and was versatile enough to serve in both a central defense and defensive midfield capacity.

"We were preparing him to play that role and the kid did a fantastic job for us," Mourinho said. When lineups came out, it appeared that maybe the struggling Gary Cahill would be moved up in front of the back line, but as the teams trotted out onto the field, it was clear Mourinho had chosen Zouma. Needless to say, he was pleased with the decision to put Zouma in that position.

Mkuu huyu Nonda ni mtu na akili zake timamu kabisa na ni mpenzi wa mipira na anafatilia habari vzr kabisa za michezo. Na ata km timu ikifanikwa anatoa pongezi, mfano ni juzi tu alitoa hongera kwa kuchukua kombe.

Lakini huyu Nonda anapenda sn kutaniana ndio maana utamuona anarusha matani km hayo lkn ni shabiki mzuri na ukweli anaufahamu vzr. John Terry: Jose Mourinho says Chelsea will offer captain new deal

Chelsea captain John Terry will be offered a new contract by the Premier League leaders, according to Blues manager Jose Mourinho.

The former England skipper's current deal expires at the end of the season.

Centre-half Terry, 34, has made more than 550 appearances for the London club since signing professional terms in 1998.

"I can guarantee he will be a Chelsea player next season," said Mourinho. "No doubts he's going to get his contract."

Terry is likely to be offered a new one-year deal as Chelsea have a policy of awarding only 12-month extensions to players over the age of 30.

Named man of the match in Sunday's Capital One Cup final after scoring the opening goal in his side's 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley, Terry said he wanted to stay at Stamford Bridge.

"If this is my last year, then I hope it goes out on a bang," he said. "But I am feeling great at the minute and it would be the wrong time to go."

Terry captained Chelsea to two Premier League titles in Mourinho's first spell at Stamford Bridge but was not always selected by interim boss Rafael Benitez during an injury-troubled 2012-13 season.

The Blues lead the Premier League by five points with 12 games to play and have a game in hand on second-placed Manchester City.

They face West Ham at Upton Park on Wednesday.
