Those companies are the builders of most of these gated communities and I can guarantee that owning a piece for any hardworking Kenyan is very easy. There's also HFC which is a mortgage company and its also undertaking major developments in Nairobi. A small mwananchi can own shares in it. I can go on but you people ill always find something negative.

Private sector should be the one driving growth, not the other way round. The government's role should be making policies and not actively competing for business with the private sector like in the case of housing. Naomba utembee Kenya ujue miaka miwili si enough. The middle class population in the country is growing. We are busy chasing the next big thing. Visit a place like Nakuru (photo below) see how "watu wadogo" like drivers, boda boda riders, farmers and teachers have built nice 3+bedroom houses some have even built rental houses. Some nice cars too. Most average families I know from Nakuru have at least two houses, one in Nakuru and another in their rural homes. Mind you its permanent houses fitted with modern decor.

There are very many such success stories across kenya. While Tanzanians buried their heads in the sand through ujamaa, we had our own and successful philosophy called Harambee, which is also our national motto - pulling resources together. Kenyans might be tribal but when it comes to social welfare and pulling resources together, we are just unbeatable. Most of these big companies you see around, like those you've mentioned above, are modelled along this philosophy of coming together and putting our resources in one basket.
