Electric locomotives zina high capacity, high speed, low maintance costs and durability ukilinganisha na diesel locomotives, hakuna nchi yoyote duniani ambayo kwa sasa hivi inafikiria kujenga reli inayotumia diesel, ila zipo zilizojengwa miaka ya zamani ndizo ambazo zinaendelea kutumika, sio kwasababu ni bora kuliko electric, ila kwasababu hawawezi kuziacha kwasababu bado zinatumika na kuzibadilisha ni gharama sana.
