Aliko Dangote, president of Dangote Industries Limited, has raised the company’s planned investment in its Ethiopia fertiliser project from $2.5 billion to more than $4 billion, citing an expanded project scope that now includes major supporting infrastructure and downstream facilities.

Dangote said the revised budget covers the construction of a 110-kilometre pipeline, a 120-megawatt power plant, a polypropylene packaging facility and a two-million-tonne NPK blending plant, in addition to the core fertiliser production assets.

Dangote, alongside Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, visited the site of the proposed fertiliser plant in Gode to assess progress on construction activities, according to a statement on Sunday.

Ethiopia signed a shareholders agreement with Dangote Group in August last year to develop a urea plant designed to produce three million metric tonnes annually, a project the government has positioned as a key industrial investment aimed at strengthening domestic fertiliser supply and supporting agricultural productivity.
