Fotyen Tesfay and Abel Chelangat were the winners of the 2026 Barcelona Marathon on Sunday (15 March), securing victories in the women’s and men’s elite races, respectively.

Racing in her first-ever marathon, Ethiopia’s Tesfay stormed to victory in 2:10:53, the second-fastest time in women’s marathon history.

The 28-year-old, who finished seventh in the 10000m at the Paris 2024 Olympics, broke down in tears as she crossed the finish line, overwhelmed with emotion after the stunning debut performance.

Her mark sits just 57 seconds behind the women’s marathon world record of 2:09:56, held by Ruth Chepngetich and set at the 2024 Chicago Marathon.

Tesfay’s time also shattered the previous Barcelona Marato course record of 2:19:33, set by Sharon Chelimo in 2025, and stands as a new Ethiopian national record.

Kenya’s Joan Jepkosgei Kiplimo finished second in a personal best 2:18:42, while Ethiopia’s Zeineba Yimer placed third with a personal best 2:18:49.

Chelangat shakes off Kenyan chase to secure victory

Chelangat of Uganda secured victory in the men’s race in a personal best 2:04:57.

Chased hard over the closing stages by the Kenyan pair of Patrick Mosin and Jonathan Korir, the 32-year-old held his nerve to claim the win.

Mosin finished second in a personal best 2:05:01, while Korir completed the podium in 2:05:29, also a personal best.

Hata wewe tumia akili, the luxurious JW Marriott which can accommodate over 360 guests unataka kucompare na a small facility with 20 rooms. Of course number of rooms matters, usiwe mjinga.
Kwahiyo all those 11 facilities in Tanzania zina 20 rooms! Kinyeo chako!
