Kutoka kwa January - Tanzania Oyee
I just concluded my visit to China with a tour of Shenzhen where I met and had dinner with the mayor and local leaders and visited major companies here and of Hong Kong where I met for strategy meetings with our Honorary Consuls for Hong Kong and Macau. I am grateful to Foreign Minister Wang Yi for invitation, warm hospitality, wide-ranging discussion and a kind gesture of organizing a banquet for me.
Minister Wang Yi and I expressed satisfaction with the state of our political and diplomatic relations and recommitted to strengthen them. We’ll expedite the signing of financing of two key projects - North East Grid Transmission Line and Rural Mobile Broadband Coverage, and work on next phases and other projects. We’ll continue to prioritize the strategic components of our cooperation - including defense. We’ll work on the proposal for the revamp of Dr Salim Ahmed Salim Center for Foreign Relations. We’ll encourage the conclusion of negotiations on TAZARA revitalization and Mchuchuma-Liganga project, which are progressing well. Tanzania will continue to enjoy China’s support, through SINOSURE and other mechanisms, in the financing of strategic projects.
Tanzania and China will continue to work together in the framework of FOCAC and other key programs, such as Global Development Initiative and Belt and Road Initiative, in pursuit of our development ambitions. In that respect, we agreed to intensify exchange of practical experiences in the modernization of key sectors such as agriculture and manufacturing. Generally, we’ve agreed to leverage our excellent political and diplomatic relations for expansion of trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges.
In our desire for usher in a global order underpinned by fairness and mutual respect, we agreed to promote the recently-adopted Dar es Salaam Consensus as the expression of common aspirations of developing countries. We also agreed to continue with efforts to depoliticize key global governance institutions.
The visit was very successful. I met with key people in Chinese government, its agencies, including China EXIM BANK and China International Development Cooperation Agency, and the private sector. I also met ambassadors of SADC countries in Beijing and conducted a number of media interviews to promote Tanzania in China and Tanzania’s relations with China.
