The recent data released by OTEXA says that Kenya was the top exporting destination in Africa with US $ 319.82 million worth of shipment to USA in the said period. The country has seen a drop of 18.21 per cent on Y-o-Y basis.
The export values of Kenya accommodated 31.90 per cent of total US imports from Sub-Sahara region.
The second top exporter from Africa to USA was Lesotho and, with US $ 202.45 million worth of shipment in Jan.-Oct. ’20 period, it dipped by 16.65 per cent on Y-o-Y basis.
Furthermore, other major exporting destinations like Madagascar and Morocco fell significantly by 17.56 per cent and 31.28 per cent, respectively.
Markedly, Ethiopia was the only African destination which increased by 9.24 per cent on Y-o-Y basis even in pandemic-hit year. Ethiopia shipped US $ 185.23 million worth of garments to USA in Jan.-Oct. ’20 and contributed 18.39 per cent in total Sub-Saharan exports value to USA.
