New tarmac road connects Turkana to South Sudan
By theo vos on 3rd August 2021
The fastest and most comfortable way to travel right into Kenya’s Northern Turkana Land was – until now – to take a scheduled flight to Lodwar or Lokichar-Kapese. The road was a notorious and unpredictable journey that was only challenged by experienced drivers and the strongest 4WD vehicles. This is a great step that will improve the tourism experience in Kenya’s Northern Frontier and the Warrior Nomad Trail.
The South Sudan Link road project
Today 2021, the new tarmac road – also know as ‘South Sudan Link Road’ – entails the upgrade of 514km stretch of road from Kitale to Lokichogio in north west Kenya in Turkana County. The road connects Turkana to South Sudan It connects the towns of Kitale – Kapenguria – Lokichar – Lodwar – Kakuma to Lokichogio town, which is 30 kilometres from the Nadapal border between Kenya and South Sudan. The re-surfaced A1 highway and newly built supporting infrastructure is opening up business opportunities in an arid region hard-hit by rural poverty.

Similar road connections in East Africa
This highway is part of the East Africa Community Trunk Road Network which will connect Biharamulo, Tanzania , to Mwanze, on the shore of Lake Victoria,to Musoma to Isebania to Kitale to Lodwar to Lokichogio to Nakodok to Juba in South Sudan. The East Africa Community is comprised of Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan, Rwanda and Uganda.
Warrior Nomad Trail initiative
The Warrior Nomad Trail initiative benefits greatly from the South Sudan Link road project as it reduces travel time, eliminates seasonal road blocks due to flooding and therefore increases security for those traveling from Kitale through West-Pokot and Turkanaland into South Sudan.

...'cause we're not all painted with one big broad brush. If Tanzanians don't need malls then why do you have the few ones in the first place? Why invest in something that you don't need? Look mate, your statements are self-defeating.
As I've already told you, Jumia didn't understand our market well, it's their problem. We have local companies that do well in that industry as my brother coodip1 puts it nicely here;Jumia closed business because Tanzanians don't shop online. They are too analogue. They still believe in what we call "kadogo economy" here in Kenya. In short, they don't have purchasing power. Stop looking for flimsy excuses because dukas are everywhere in Kenya but shopping malls are still attracting a good number of shoppers even as most people still do their shopping in dukas.
We have local company called SARAFU that does online shopping also we have Kikuu online the options are many plus we are fond of our dukas and mini markets where we can buy things on credit which is more convenient than buying at inflated prices at the malls.
Purchasing power my ass, you guys can't even build 1km of rail with your own money. You're just a broke ass country with a big mouth. We are not making a big shit out of anything. We are just reminding you that we have a bigger purchasing power than you (read Tanzanians) and I know it's a bitter pill to take. Adios!
