Gigo, Wacha na Jasusi,

hapa ndipo naposhindwa kuelewa kabisa hawa wasomi wa nchi zetu. Ikiwa sisi humu tunaweza kuona kuwa misaada haiwezi kutukomboa lakini hawa viongozi wameshindwa ama wameghairi kabisa kuona hilo zaidi ya kusema hatuna njia nyingineyo!...Ukiuliza wanasema sisi maskini hatuna mtaji!..

Je, sii kweli usemi unaosema Elimu ni bora kuliko fedha?... Inakuwaje leo Mtajio umetangulia kabisa Elimu zao.

Soma kitabu cha 'Cheikh Anta Diop',kinachoitwa 'The African Origin of Civilization' na vingine uone jinsi historia ya Afrika ilivyokuwa falsified by western so called scholars.

AFRICANS DONT UNDERSTAND ECONOMICS!!

Africans and their leaders cannot run an economy without the help of a white man, africans are only good with nature( traditonal medicine, rearing cattle, witchcraft, living in the bush).

examples;

ZIMBABWE - lots of so called highly educated black economists but country falling apart, economy a disaster.

NIGERIA - lots of oil and so called super educated intelligent individuals but more corruption, majority living in poverty, economy directionless.

DRC - lots of minerals. no economy

LOTS more african run by stupid black african leaders who don't understand economics.

should all african countries forget about this money thing and just go back to what they used to do best, coz almost all african countries have had major problems since the white man first introduced them to money and the world economy.
after all, african countries get the worst deals in world trade !.

Raj Patel would tell you...it is the low IQ levels that black Africans have....maybe he is right

Suppose we (tanzanians) switch places with the Germans or the British, do you think they will be able to harness our natural resources to achieve a better economy?

I don’t think if the low IQ level that black Africans have is the reason. The economy of Africa consists of the trade, industry, and resources of the peoples of Africa. Increased corruption and despotism are the main reasons for Africa's poor economy. Some people add the transition from colonialism has been shaky and uncertain, and the Cold War, but I don’t buy the last to items.

Corruption: All forms of government are susceptible to political corruption. Forms of corruption vary, but include bribery, extortion, cronyism, nepotism, patronage, graft, and embezzlement. While corruption may facilitate criminal enterprise such as drug trafficking, money laundering, and trafficking, it is not restricted to these organized crime activities. In some nations corruption is so common that it is expected when ordinary businesses or citizens interact with government officials. The end-point of political corruption is a kleptocracy, literally "rule by thieves". CCM is a classic example.

The effects are on politics, administration, institutions and economic, but we are interested in economic effects. Corruption undermines economic development by generating considerable distortions and inefficiency. In the private sector, corruption increases the cost of business through the price of illicit payments themselves, the management cost of negotiating with officials, and the risk of breached agreements or detection. Mikataba ya Madini ni mfano mmoja wapo.

Despotism: a system of government in which the ruler has unlimited power, Tanzania and Uganda, for example. These rulers are not genius, Kikwete and Lowassa are good examples, but they want to have control over everything.

These are the two main reasons why we are all messed up.

Educate 'em mjomba! And may I add: the very low levels of education (or rather lack of) and the relatively inferior states of Science and Technology present in African societies are a serious setback for most forms of socio economic progress.

What? Tatizo sio elimu au kutokujua uchumi. Tatizo ni ubinafsi na ulafi. Dr.Bilali anaweza kuongoza hata Worl Bank lakini

This is really not true.

Many African states are led by highly educated people. Zimbabwe is led by Mugabe who has 7 degrees of his own, and his cabinet has several doctors with Ph.Ds. 90% of the Kikwetes cabinet is composed of university graduates many with Masters degrees. So the problem is not very low levels of education.

Inferior state of science and technology is a fuzzy phrase that doesn't tell the reality. Tanzania got her independence earlier than Singapore. At the time of independence, both nations had the same level of technology, but today Singaporse has developed technologically far ahead of Tanzania while Tanzania has not changed even a fraction.

Our problems have been defined clearly by TZ_DEVIL:

(a) Corruption

(b) Despotism (and Nepotism)

and I will add the following:

(c) Myopic economic policies.

(d) Lack of seriousness to rule of law.

The suggestion that low levels of education in African societies is (among many other factors) a handicap to economic progress in Africa is intended to refer to the condition as it applies to the general citizenry in African countries.

That said, a country's level of economic development is not determined by the quantity or the quality of academic qualifications possessed by her leadership. Moreover, it comes as no surprise at all that its the relatively academically distinguished in any given society who get elected to positions of power and influence i.e., high office. I mean, who else would you expect to become member of cabinet in Kikwete's government: some long serving, aging CCM diehard with nothing but madrasah education to show on their resumé but unlimited political clout stretching all the way back to the days of TAA and TANU?

As to your correct observation regarding the pre- and post independence levels of science and technology in Tanzania and Singapore, I dare say the main reason for this particular status quo is indeed none other than education! Why not do us a favor: refer back to your sources and provide us a comparative historical analysis of the amounts Tanzania and Singapore have been spending in education as percentage of GDP/GNP/GNI before and after each country's independence?

I understand what you mean by low levels of education in African societies and I agree with you. But who is to blame if not the leaders?

Singapore had a similar situation at the time of her Independence; however, it had leadership that understood the importance of education in economic development. They invested heavily in education. I will not provide any data as it may take my time to research, however, Singapore spends a lot in education than any of the African states. That is a reflection of what I said: African states have myopic economic policies.

Whatever the nature of problems that may contribute to poor levels of education in the majority of people in African countries, the fact is that Africa remains the most economically backward continent due to among other reasons, the inferior education of most Africans.

On the same level, African countries have to import virtually everything (from pins to tractors) from outside because of acute shortage of scientific expertise and technical know-how in their workforce necessary for production and industry.

Now yo don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that this would be the perfect recipe for socio economic underdevelopment.

People...IQ, IQ, IQ, IQ...!!!
Impressive academic credentials and achievements mean nothing. Really...what do they mean? With all those highly, ivy league educated people (mainly scientists)that Nigeria (or Tanzania)have, what have they done? Show me anything useful (to society) that they have done that relates directly to their education....

Academic accomplishments are not enough. The most important innate ability that is missing in most if not all sub saharan african countries is INGENUITY, period. Think about it....do you think the new IPhone, for example, was made by some classroom PhD without ingenuity? Hell no!

South Africa, with it's horrendous past is the most developed sub saharan (actually for the whole of Africa)African country. Why....?

We can talk all we want...theorize all we want...blame everybody and everything...but deep down, we know what it is.
