US Election Coverage 2008

Different articles za kuzungumzia hotuba ya leo...hii kitu leo imekuwa kama shock and awe...bring it on ha ha

would exploit the issue of race: Bring it on.Once again, the conventional wisdom proved stunningly unwise. Barack Obama was supposed to be on his heels, forced into a backpedaling, defensive crouch after racially charged remarks by his former pastor, delivered from the pulpit years ago, suddenly became the hottest story of the presidential campaign. But instead of running away, Obama issued a challenge to those who would exploit the issue of race: Bring it on.

Wright's rantings are not reflective of Obama's views on anything. Why did he stay in the church? Because he's a black Chicago politician who comes from a mixed marriage and went to Columbia and Harvard. Suspected of not being black enough or sufficiently tied to the minority community, he needed the networking opportunities Wright afforded him in his church to get elected. If he had not risen to the top of Chicago black politics, we would never have heard of him. But obviously, he can't say that. So what should he say?

He needs to get out of this mess with subtlety, the kind Bill Clinton should have used to escape the Monica Lewinsky scandal -- but didn't. As the controversy continues, Americans will gradually realize that Obama stuck by Wright as part of a need to get ahead. They will chalk up to pragmatism why he was so close to such a preacher. As they come to realize that Obama doesn't agree with Wright but used him to get started, they will be more forgiving.

Since he was very young, Senator Barack Obama has been something of a mediator of racial concerns, shuttling between black and white worlds and trying to translate the concerns of one to the other.

He did it in his family. He did it at Harvard Law School. And on Tuesday morning, he assumed that role nationally, trying to allay voters’ concerns about statements by his pastor, Jeremiah A. Wright, and staking his presidential candidacy on his ability to explain black grievances to white people and white resentment to black people.

In a way, Mr. Obama seemed to be arguing not only for his own candidacy but also against the often-reductive nature of presidential politics. To answer the brief, incendiary clips of his pastor’s statements that have been dominating television airwaves and the Internet, Mr. Obama made a long, nuanced speech, seeming to bet that voters will care enough about him and the race to give it many minutes of attention and thought.

The address, which Mr. Obama wrote himself, seemed partly like a historical refresher course for white voters on discrimination against African-Americans.

Obama's Philadelphia speech made this argument as well as it could be made. He condemned the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's views in strong language -- and embraced Wright as a wayward member of the family. He made Wright and his congregation a symbol of both the nobility and "shocking ignorance" of the African-American experience -- and presented himself as a leader who transcends that conflicted legacy. The speech recognized the historical reasons for black anger -- and argued that the best response to those grievances is the adoption of Obama's own social and economic agenda.

It was one of the finest political performances under pressure since John F. Kennedy at the Greater Houston Ministerial Association in 1960. It also fell short in significant ways.

NN Hannity amespin nini leo kuhusiana na speech?

Kuna article nimeisoma jamaa wanadai Obama amemtumia Rev.

According to mastrategist wa both parties wanasema kuidefuse hii kitu inabidi Rev.Wright aje aombe msamaha. Americans tend to be forgiving.

“It was a superb speech,” said Whit Ayres, a Republican strategist not currently affiliated with any presidential campaign. “It was a speech every bit as powerful as you’d expect from Barack Obama. But I don’t know that it solves his problem.”

Obama threw his granny under the bus...and refused to disown Rev. Wright. His pastor is not his blood. He can disown him. But failed. That will be a new talking point in the days to come.

Hapa JF siku hizi kuna 'ignore list', why can't you put him there as I have done now!

Obama flip-flopped and the media has caught it.

NN, unakuwa misinformed mno! kitu kimoja naweza kusema kwa kuangalia pundits hasa wa upande wa kulia....america will never heal from racial tensions!! haijalisha Obama atasema nini, fanya nini au hata Dr. Wright aje kuomba msamaha, hii ni kama opportunity waliokuwa wanasubiri ili kum-lynch mchana kweupe!!
it is suffocating and terrorizing to listen to people like Pat Buchanan, Tucker Carson, Larry Elder, yaani hata Joe Scarborough is not pretty face anymore.......its scary!!

Madame President, the fighter!

Stay tune mzee. Papers za mama za wakati akiwa first lady zimekuwa released. I hope hatapata misukosuko kutokana na contradictions based on what she's been saying vs. whats on the record. I think you Clinton supporters think that your candidate is shielded and immuned from controversies wakati sio kweli. If I had my way I would abolish all this dirty politics and let the candidate wachuane kwenye real issues, and not what could have been, or should have been.
You all have been cheering on Rev. Wright, but wanasema mwenzako akinyolewa ......wewe tia maji. Just wait and see what these papers and later next month what her and her husbands income tax information for 8 years will reveal, their real estate dealings, and $500 million dollar contributions to the Presidential library. Yangu macho...and I will not cheer.

Go go U can...

Nyani Ngabu Hii quote umeitoa wapi naomba ufafanuzi

Waafrika ndio tulivyo....

You are very negative na hii quote inanitisha kama inauhusiano na negative thinking yako!

Kwani una upofu wa macho? Hivi huoni yanayoendelea Afrika na Tanzania...? Ndio ukwelii wenyewe huo.

Poa, ngoja tusubiri tuone. Nafikiri hawana nia mbaya, wanataka kumpitisha kwenye tanuru ili akishinda awe amekomaa.

Kwa mfano speech ya Bush ya state of union aliposema "we the people" sidhani kama alikuwa aki include race zote!Ni kweli Mandela alikuwa regarded as a terrorist na wamarekani huko nyuma wakati wa apartheid system.Hata Dick Cheney mwenyewe alivote against Mandela release!Sasa hapa wanapomuandama Rev Wright je na wengine wakimuandama cheney ama maracist wengine...ama hata Mc cain mwenyewe ambaye alikuwa na kashfa ya confederate flag ila alishaomba msamaha!Vipi kuhusu wale wenye uhusiano na watu waliokuwa wakiown slaves ama wenye mwelekeo wa ki kkk?
Amewaweka wamarekani kwenye wakati mgumu kwani ubaguzi upo nje nje marekani!Akaweka wazi kuwa uhusiano unaweza ukawa perfected.
Obama alichukua uamuzi mgumu na wa kushujaa..at the same time wenye busara kwani unamuweka kwenye position ambayo hataweza kuloose everything! Wakawa pumped up,and fired up!wakwaogopesha wazungu! Sasa sijui ilipangwa ama vipi!ila ndo hali halisi!
Dhamira inawasuta!
Mama ana zile policies za Bush za kutizama things on the horizon na kuziconfront as they come..whre as Obama yeye ni honest and truthfull specifically about what he's going to do.

Obama's lead over Clinton narrows: Reuters poll By Steve Holland
Wed Mar 19, 7:03 AM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrat Barack Obama's big national lead over Hillary Clinton has all but evaporated in the U.S. presidential race, and both Democrats trail Republican John McCain, according a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

The poll showed Obama had only a statistically insignificant lead of 47 percent to 44 percent over Clinton, down sharply from a 14 point edge he held over her in February when he was riding the tide of 10 straight victories.

Illinois Sen. Obama, who would be America's first black president, has been buffeted by attacks in recent weeks from New York Sen. Clinton over his fitness to serve as commander-in-chief and by a tempest over racially charged sermons given by his Chicago preacher.

The poll showed Arizona Sen. McCain, who has clinched the Republican presidential nomination, is benefiting from the lengthy campaign battle between Obama and Clinton, who are now battling to win Pennsylvania on April 22.

McCain leads 46 percent to 40 percent in a hypothetical matchup against Obama in the November presidential election, according to the poll.

That is a sharp turnaround from the Reuters/Zogby poll from last month, which showed in a head-to-head matchup that Obama would beat McCain 47 percent to 40 percent.

"The last couple of weeks have taken a toll on Obama and in a general election match-up, on both Democrats," said pollster John Zogby.

Matched up against Clinton, McCain leads 48 percent to 40 percent, narrower than his 50 to 38 percent advantage over her in February.

"It's not surprising to me that McCain's on top because there is disarray and confusion on the Democratic side," Zogby said

Obama gave a speech on Tuesday rebuking his pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, for sermons sometimes laced with inflammatory tirades but said he could not disown him and it was time for Americans to bind the country's racial wounds.

The poll showed Obama continues to have strong support from the African-American community but that he is experiencing some slippage among moderates and independents.

Among independents, McCain led for the first time in the poll, 46 percent to 36 percent over Obama.

He was behind McCain by 21 percent among white voters.

Zogby attributed this to a combination of the fallout from Clinton's victory in Ohio earlier this month and the controversy over Wright's sermons.

"And, just the closer he gets to the nomination, the tougher questions whites ask about an African-American candidate," Zogby said.

The March 13-14 poll surveyed 525 likely Democratic primary voters for the matchup between Clinton and Obama. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.

For the matchup between McCain and his Democratic rivals, 1004 likely voters were surveyed. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
