Tanzania imeunga mkono ajenda zote muhimu zilizojadiliwa katika Mkutano wa Tisa wa Wakuu wa Nchi na Serikali wa Jumuiya ya Nchi za Ukanda wa Maziwa Makuu (ICGLR).

Makamu wa Rais, Balozi Dk Emmanuel Nchimbi alisema hayo wakati akimwakilisha Rais Samia Suluhu Hassan kwenye mkutano huo uliofanyika Kinshasha nchini Jamhuri ya Kidemokrasia ya Congo (DRC).

Alisema Tanzania inaunga mkono ajenda zote muhimu, ikiwemo ya amani na usalama na kusisitiza kuwa itaendelea kutoa mchango mkubwa kama inavyofanya katika nchi mbalimbali kuhakikisha kuwa amani ya kweli inapatikana kwenye kanda hiyo. Mkutano huo ulitanguliwa na vikao vya wataalamu, wakuu wa vyombo vya ulinzi pamoja na Kamati za Mawaziri wa Kisekta, ikiwemo ulinzi, madini na jinsia.

Mkutano huo umebebwa na Kaulimbiu ya “Uimarishaji wa Amani na Usalama kwa Maendeleo Endelevu katika Eneo la Maziwa Makuu.” Kupitia kaulimbiu hiyo, nchi wanachama zimejadili hali ya usalama katika Ukanda wa Maziwa Makuu na kupendekeza njia za kuimarisha amani na usalama kwenye eneo hilo.

The Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi, represented H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan @SuluhuSamia President of the United Republic of Tanzania, at the Ninth Summit of Heads of State and Government of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region held in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.

The summit was preceded by a series of meetings involving technical experts, heads of defense and security organs, and sectoral ministerial committees, including those responsible for Defense, Mining, and Gender.

This year’s summit was held under the theme: “Strengthening Peace and Security for Sustainable Development in the Great Lakes Region.”Through this theme, member states discussed the current security situation in the Great Lakes Region and proposed measures to enhance peace and stability across the area.

During the summit, Tanzania reaffirmed its commitment to all key agenda items, particularly those related to peace and security, emphasizing that it will continue to play a significant role—as it has consistently done across various countries—to ensure the attainment of lasting peace in the region.

In his opening remarks, the newly appointed Chairperson of the ICGLR and President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, H.E. Felix Tshisekedi, congratulated H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan on her victory in the free and fair elections held in October 2025.

Member states were also urged to uphold the founding Treaty of the ICGLR, which seeks to promote peace, security, and genuine development through cooperation, unity, and solidarity—while maintaining unwavering commitment and dedication to achieving these shared goals.

Other agenda items discussed during the summit included issues related to mineral resources, gender, and finance.

The Vice President was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the President of Zanzibar SMZ, Hon. Salehe Juma Mussa; the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Said Shaib Mussa; Tanzania’s Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, H.E. Said Juma Mshana; as well as senior officials and various experts
