I have lived to understand Mwalimu as a person who was non responsive to ideas and thinking which is different from his own from among his people. He was quick to adopt things from outside and become rigid from home grown ideas and opinions. To be able to lead with this attitude he selected people in his leadership team who were passive with little ability of inovation or synthesis of ideas. Refer to the leaders He chose in various leadership positions in the government and the party....majority had remain in their positions for years because they were YES man and women. This country has the greatest weakness in Leadership and the reason takes us back to Mwalimu. He killed by his various actions independent thinking and innovation thus those who survived under his rule were the like of Late Kawawa RIP who once said that he cant recall a single decision that he made by himself. With respect a leader as much as he not a robot must at time decide and stand for his decision. It goes with the say that if two people think alike every time one of them is not thinking. People with that attitude remain in position of leadership and recruited as leaders their like.... Need I say more???

You are either misinformed or you are a misinformer. Firstly, Nyerere did not campaign for sainthood and I would go on a limb to say that had the idea been broached to him he would have been dead against it. Secondly, it is not a requirement to have one's body exhumed during the beautification process. Thirdly, the current crop of politicians, including Kikwete and Mkapa were nonbelievers of Nyerere's philosophy and that is why soon as he retired they started wearing western style suits. They were/are political opportunists and the evidence is in their perfomance. We Christians believe everyone should carry his own cross. Mkapa and Kikwete should be judged on their performances.

You cannot compare the calibre of leadership we had under Mwalimu with the calibre we have today. Jamal was no Rostum and Kawawa was no Lowassa.

Whatever you say about Mwalimu Nyerere, he will standstill as Tanzania Father of The Nation! He is the Hero of our time! I rember one day in Mbeya during May day speech, he pazzled "...katika kila awamu ya utawala kuna mazuri na mabaya (makosa) yanafanyika, tusifanye makosa kwani sisi malaika! Ni wajibu wa awamu inayo ingia kuchukua mazuri na kuacha mabaya-AJABU NINYI MNAACHA MAZURI MNACHUKUA MABAYA (huku akimuangalia Basil Mramba)..!

Mwalimu knew and regret that he did mistake during his regime and he expected Mwinyi will correct all mistakes, but neither Mwinyi nor Mkapa or Kikwete did what Mwalimu expected! They did not even accept and regret what they have done to Tanzanians. To me Mwl. is the HERO!
