e Gea
An unkind deflection was all that got through him, and while it was terribly unlucky, he could have maybe reacted a split-second quicker to keep it out. Otherwise a typically strong display in goal.
1.
C. Smalling
Barely put a foot wrong in defence, blanketing Crouch and proving a force in the air.
12.
P. Jones
A near-flawless display at the back, keeping Stoke out of the danger area and drastically limiting their looks at goal.
4.
D. Blind
Provided consistently inviting deliveries from set-pieces and defended his flank soundly, completely negating the threat of Shaqiri.
17.
Ander Herr...
A real creative outlet for United, one of the few who managed to find the quality they so desperately lacked in the danger areas. Passed the ball about tidily, and produced some excellent crosses.
21.
Mata
Couldn't have been much worse in the first half. Failed to track Pieter's run before turning the cross into his own net for Stoke's opener, then sliced a sitter over the bar at the other end, squandering his chance for redemption. Replaced for the final 25 minutes.
8.
H. Mkhitaryan
Got into some excellent areas in attack, consistently finding space and commanding a lot of attention. He just lacked the necessary decisiveness in front of goal.
22.
M. Fellaini
Was actually one of United's better players, winning headers and proving a regular threat in the area, when he was replaced by Rashford after 56 minutes.
27.
P. Pogba
Did everything right in the build-up: strong in possession, crisp with his passing and smart in his movement, but it all went awry for him in the final third. Needed to do more to test Grant or pick out a good final ball.
6.
A. Valencia
His flank was a bit more exposed, as he had his difficulties dealing with the intensity and tenacity of Arnautovic. Limited contributions on the overlap.
25.
Z. Ibrahimovic
Moved well off the ball and carved out a few decent chances for his team-mates, including a terrific cross to set-up Mata with a sitter, but he failed to threaten Grant himself. Needed to be more ruthless in front of goal.
9.
J. Lingard
Packed a punch off the bench, offering up some good energy in attack.
14.
M. Rashford
Came close to scoring late on, before winning the free-kick that resulted in Rooney's equaliser.
19.
W. Rooney
Made history, becoming United's all-time leading scorer in fairytale fashion, with a sensationally struck free-kick to rescue a point for them in the final minutes.
