Jurgen Klopp says his Liverpool players are desperate to write new chapters in the club’s history as their pursuit of domestic and European double continues.

Liverpool face Porto at Anfield in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

Although it has been overshadowed by Manchester City’s quadruple bid, the club is seeking to match the achievements in 1977 and 1984, when Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan lifted the league title and European Cup.

“It’s such a good time. It’s warm outside, spring is coming and we are in two big competitions,” said Klopp.

“We have to use the situation. We have not finished the season, we have not finished our development. We want to write a few proper things in our book this season.

“We feel in a good moment, we feel that each of our players is fantastic, we feel the future could be - maybe not ours alone - but we could be a hand in the future of football. That’s what we try to do but I’m not interested in this moment in players from other clubs, I’m only interested in my boys.

“We are on fire. In training you can see we are really in a good moment, but other teams are as well. We all play for a lot. You will see tomorrow night that Porto really wants to go through. It will be a tough one, but that’s how it should be.

“To be in the situation we are in, we had to win all the games pretty much. We are used to this, but it doesn’t make the job easier.

“I cannot go into a meeting and say ‘OK boys, we are in a position where we have to win all the games’. It doesn’t work like that. We have to be spot on, recover between the games, prepare the boys and let them go again.”
