Lovren: “Van Dijk Is Learning From Me Every Day”

Dejan Lovren has vowed to continue teaching Virgil Van Dijk about defending at the highest level following the Dutchman’s arrival at Anfield a year ago this month. Van Dijk has earned rave reviews for his performances at the heart of Liverpool’s defence, a fact in which Lovren takes great pride.

“It shows he listens,” the Croat told Soccer on Sunday. “It’s well documented that I’m the best defender in the world, so it’s a huge privilege for Big Virg to learn from me each day. I’d have given anything to learn from Dejan Lovren when I was Virg’s age, but that wasn’t possible because I am Dejan Lovren.”
“I’m giving Virg more than a football education,” added Lovren. “Last week I taught him how to change the oil on his car and make love to a woman. Little things like that. He’s a natural with cars, but his love making probably lacks half a yard of aggression. It can only improve.”

Despite only being two years the Croat’s junior, Van Dijk admits that he regards Lovren as somewhat of a father figure.
“I look up to Dejan,” the former Celtic defender told Soccer on Sunday. “Last Sunday he took me fishing and taught me how to make love to a woman. At first my wife was uncomfortable with Dejan there, but once we had bibs on and he’d laid cones around the bed, he got his message across very effectively.”
“We both call him Papa Lovren,” added Van Dijk. “Because he asks us to. We’re not comfortable with it, to be fair.”
