The issue here is why prioritize purchase of Airplanes instead of say for example invest in Agriculture by giving subsidy to Agriculture sector, in which more than 80% of Tanzanians depends on Agriculture?

Airway business is a very competitive industry. Just try to compare performance of other giant International carriers like Ethiopian Airlines, The Emirates, British Airways, Kenya Airways, South Africa Airways, just to mention a few of them...you will find that they're not economically health at all!!!

ATCL will be no special in this business...!!They must face the same music of competition and challenges.
The main task of a good government is to collect TAX and do nothing on business...!!

Mi nadhani kuna tatizo la uelewa mwa walio wengi hapa, na wengine ni msukumo wa kiitikadi tu.

Tanzania is a country in East Africa with a population of over 50 million people and per capita income of just about 1000 USD. The country has one of the fastest growing graduates unemployment in the region with a very high dependent ratio and rapid population increase.

For the past few years the country has undergone tremendous change in the areas of infrastructure,human rights democracy,freedom as well as inflation.The inflation especially in food crops is rising steadily while the incomes of majority of the population is shrinking due to unemployment and low wages.

Despite all these Tanzania has invested heavily in infrastructure projects including the construction of the SGR, A Hydro Power Project as well the purchase of brand new aircraft to revamp the national career Air Tanzania.

The recent purchase of aircrafts which included a dream liner (Boeing 787-800) comes amidst divided opinion among the majority of the people in the country with some criticizing and others supporting the move.

Analyst have looked at the decision to purchase aircrafts amidst tight resources and majority of them are against the move due to the fact that resources a limited and an aircraft carries with it costs to maintain it and the current aviation market in the country cannot support the operations of a Dreamliner or Air crafts in general.

Some analyst believe that the next president will have to make tough decisions to dispose of the aircrafts and invest the monies where they will have major impacts such as in health,education,water and sanitation as well as in improving the business environment and youth empowerment .

Do you think the Dreamliner will take aways Tanzanians dreams?Let us discuss on other productive use to which the money used to pay for the dreamlines could have been used and the impact that would have.

If it was my decision I would rather leave airline business to private sector and the concentrate on policy issues Airline is a business that require an Investor to be very dynamic, with the government system of delaying decision making I do not see how this airline is going to compete in this very saturated market. We do not need a rocket science to know that airline business is too risk for a country like Tanzania. Every one would expect that the little resources that we have would be used with highest care but the opposite is the reality. As a transport professional I do not see any good future for ATCL, except political mileage.
Umemaliza mkuu.....wenzetu hadi airport zinaendeshwa na private sector, serikali ilishajitoa kwenye biashara imebaki kusimamia tu!

Don't tell people that aviation industry in Tanzania represents 1%. You need to be critical to say it.

All foreigners who come here need this means of Transport. Most of Tanzania working in various sectors npw needs it.

The tourism industry needs it.

Whoever is say that the aviation sector is only 1% of the economy should first start studying the statistics on tourism!! How much does it contribute to the GDP.!!

Our political differences have made us so biased on truth and reality.

The aviation sector together with tourism contributes 17% of our whole economy and when the government works to strengthen it, it suddenly becomes a wrong move.

Emirates brings in a B777 daily, and it's done that years . There are 5 flights daily to Nairobi done by only someone else. KLM bought a brand new B787-10 and guess what route it exclusively serves, it's Amsterdam - kilimanjaro - dar.

Till when are we going to let people rip us off like that!!!

Kwa maana hiyo mradi wa stigler gorge ni muhim sana. Unahitajika sana. Pamoja na mradi wa umeme vijijin - rea. Nategemea watanzania wapige kelele utekelezaji wa miradi hii uende kwa kasi sana.

Hata mradi mkubwa wa umeme ukifanywa bila mipango unakuwa bure tu.

Kwa mfano, ukikopa mabilioni ya fedha, kwa kufikiri utarudisha hela kwa kuuzia watu umeme, wakati watu hawana purchasing power, kwa sababu hawana kazi sekta rasmi na sekta isiyo rasmi inasinyaa, na serikali haijajipanga kutengeneza uchumi, utaishia kuwa na deni la mabilioni ya dola za Kimarekani, utakuwa na mradi ambao ni ghali kuuendeleza na hutakuja kupata faida.
