Mourinho says Eden Hazard can become an all-time great

While Cesc Fabregas leads the Premier League in assists and Diego Costa second in goals, Eden Hazard has been Chelsea's best player this season.

Teaming with Fabregas and Oscar in the midfield, Eden Hazard and Co. have been dominant, often making their opposition look like schoolboys as the trio seamlessly moves the ball wherever they please.

The 23-year-old midfielder has been so good that manager Jose Mourinho believes he has the potential to become a legend at Stamford Bridge.

I think he can become one of Chelsea's all-time greats but he has to win titles.

I don't know players who are considered legends in clubs without winning titles, so he has to do that but the potential, I think, everybody knows."

That's high praise for the Belgian, as Chelsea have produced legendary players such as Gianfranco Zola, Frank Lampard and Peter Osgood.

There's no denying the importance and brilliance of Eden Hazard, whose name has been thrown around as one of the next biggest stars in world football. He has scored 39 times in two-and-a-half seasons with the Blues, but his biggest assets are his vision and creativity, which create chances for the likes of Costa and Drogba up top.

Mourinho also went on to say that Hazard will sign a new contract with the club, and that he was never worried the young Belgian would leave.

Hazard's brilliance will be on display Monday as Chelsea travel to Stoke City, where they will look to stay atop the Premier League table.

Geoff Cameron: Eden Hazard is “best I’ve played against” in Premier League

It is a big test for us on Monday, playing against Chelsea who are top of the league and have shown everyone just how good they are this season. With the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard and Diego Costa up top, they have a lot of good players but you can’t just focus on one. You have to focus on them all.

I’ve said this in the past, but for me Hazard is the best player I have played against in the Premier League. Jose Mourinho has come out to this week and said Hazard could become “a club legend” and having marked him last season, I totally agree with that. You don’t want him to pick up the ball with no pressure, because he will just run away with it. You have to be close and tight with him because he is so good on the ball, he’s neat, quick and shifty. Those are the things you have to be aware of. As we all saw when the U.S. played Belgium at the World Cup, a guy like Hazard, if he turns with the ball and has 10 yards to run at your defense, that is the last thing you want a guy like him doing. We kept him quiet that game in Brazil, so hopefully Stoke can do the same on Monday.

Hazard is a wonderful player, but you can’t give time to Fabregas, Costa, Willian, Oscar, either. Chelsea have so many top players who are dangerous like Hazard but we want to make it uncomfortable for them because if they are not comfortable and confident, then it gives us a chance to implement our tactics in the game.

For us it is all about trying to string wins together and we are striving for consistency. We got a decent point away at Crystal Palace away last time out. On Monday we have to keep our lines tight and make it tough for Chelsea to play because we know how good they are and we want to frustrate them. That is the way we want to go about it.

In order to not let Chelsea gain confidence in the game, you have to get stuck into them early and let them know they are going to have a long, hard match. Basically, do anything to throw them off their game. The most important thing is that you need to work together as one. You have to decide whether to stand off and sit back, or push up high and be tight. If one player doesn’t do that, then that’s when you come unstuck and really start to struggle because their players will take advantage of it right away.

Chelsea haven’t got many weaknesses, obviously, but one area where I think we can really hurt them is if we are compact, sit back and then spring quick counter attacks and get in-behind their full backs Branislav Ivanovic and Cesar Azpilicueta. They look to push on, so if we can exploit that area, we could get some joy on the flanks.

Our fans have been fantastic at the Britannia Stadium this year. We beat Arsenal the last two years at home, beat Chelsea last season, and they have really been our 12th man. They get rowdy and create an intimidating atmosphere and boy, they will be ready to welcome Chelsea so hopefully we can give them the perfect early Christmas present!

Ni vizuri kujua lile jembe (Makelele) bado linakumbukwa na kuenziwa mpaka leo

John Terry gives Matic the highest possible compliment

What is the nicest thing you could possibly say about a defensively-minded midfielder at Chelsea? You guessed it: compare him to Claude Makelele, a man so good at his job he had the whole position renamed in his honour. And while Nemanja Matic isn't entirely a Makelele-style player, he's close enough that John Terry himself sees shades of the former France international in his play:

You look at the exciting days when the manager first came, and Claude Makelele was the master in that position where Matic plays and Matic is very close to that. We missed him at Newcastle.

I think Matic has some way to go before he reaches Makelele's level as a pure holder, but he's shown that he's capable of giving more going forward than his legendary predecessor, so we really can't complain to much. When the Serbian is on top of his game, he seems to materialise out of nowhere to block off opposition attacks, winning the ball and ensuring Chelsea hold it.

It's not as though Matic has been a revelation this year -- we knew what he was capable of from his brilliance in the second half of last season. But that doesn't make it any less fun to watch him shut other teams down.

Schuerrle happy to fight for his place at Chelsea

LONDON (Reuters) - German World Cup winner Andre Schuerrle has ruled out a move away from Chelsea despite failing to secure a regular starting place this season.

Schuerrle has been troubled by injury and illness since helping his country to the World Cup title in July and says he has no intention of leaving the Premier League leaders.

"The last few weeks I have been able to intensively train and fight myself back into the team," said the forward in his online blog (www.sportupyourlife) on Monday. "Things are getting better.

"Nevertheless, in a phase with less operating time, transfer rumours are always coming up. Of course I want to be on the pitch as much as possible and score goals for my club," added Schuerrle ahead of Monday night's league game at Stoke City.

"In a team like Chelsea, with many top players, you have to prove yourself again and again....but this is not an issue for me. I feel comfortable here and would not think of such a thing."

Schuerrle, who joined the Stamford Bridge club from Bayer Leverkusen for 18 million pounds ($28.10 million) in June 2013, scored twice in Germany's 7-1 World Cup semi-final drubbing of hosts Brazil in July.

However, he has started only 10 of Chelsea's 25 games in all competitions this season.

Chelsea will win the quadruple, believes Stoke manager Mark Hughes

Former manager is convinced Chelsea are on the verge of making history, even if Jose Mourinho likes to play down talk

Mark Hughes will attempt to frustrate Jose Mourinho for the second successive season but the Stoke City manager insists that Chelsea are on course for the quadruple.

While Mourinho, the Chelsea manager, has frantically battled to dampen talk of his team winning all four trophies, Hughes is convinced that his former club are on the verge of making history.

Chelsea can move three points clear of Manchester City on Monday night with victory at the Britannia Stadium, the scene of a 3-2 defeat last season.

Mourinho also guided the club into the Capital One Cup semi-finals last week while they will compete in the FA Cup next month and face Paris St‑Germain in the Champions League round of 16 in February. He has virtually ruled out any hopes of achieving what would be an unprecedented quadruple but Hughes believes that it is entirely possible.

“Nobody else has done it but they’ve got the potential to do it,” he said. “I would have to say yes, they are strong enough.

“There will be some very good teams who will try and stand in the way but I don’t think where we are sat today you could argue that they’ve got no chance because that would be incorrect. They have a chance, a better chance than most teams. The talk of winning every trophy, maybe in-house they believe that themselves. It wouldn’t surprise me if they did.

“Once they get to a point in the season, around March or April, and if they are still in all competitions, having probably won the League Cup, then they will feel it’s a real option for them, a real possibility. You wouldn’t back against them if they get to that point in the season. It certainly wouldn’t surprise me if they won all four.”
