Nairobi alone would not accommodate everyone living amd working there, the CBD's alone cover most of the area, then for a big city you'll need residential areas outside the CBDs most where it's calm, quiet. In Nairobi you don't live in the CBD unless it's a hotel, lodge etc. Are literally zero residentials in the CBD.
There are designated regions to set up residential buildings
