Is there anything like a traditional plan. Well are you saying joburg and Rio have 'traditional plans' planning involves zoning if you have not zoned the city,... believe me the city will fight back at some point. For instance just imagine the number of vehicles doubles, even the BRT will choke
Brt is forcing Kimara to become a city of its own... Then Tegeta has just become a trading point and city of its own... Mbagala and Congo la Mboto too...

A good thing about traditional planning is the control of city development is with people... They know what they want and official knows how it should be regulated... This way towns or cities becomes familiar to its population and people knows why things are the way they are...

If the population knows management is easy..

My take.. Town planning is just a use of physical infrastructure to control human behaviour... When we put a dustbin people will throw dirt in it.. If you declare a road people will use it as a road... The technical part is to choose a route that is sensible to all who are going to use it. Cause if its not no one will use it...

Funny part is people will always find the easy way if you let them spend time in resolving their issues.. As a technical person you have to save them time and get them the best outcome.

Plus zoning is true.. But how big a zone must be to qualify?! Because if you want a walkable city the zones has to be small and places across the whole city.. So people don't have to walk looong distances or depend on public trans... I think there are ways cities can not choke...

I think you and I can talk you have a great way of asking and you teach me something... Am tied for now but as soon as am free I will bring you a great analysis on how dar can overcome the unplanned settlement problem..

Without radial planning it is hard to have a workable plan. Even if you create city blocks there will be straight lines.. Creating two city blocks will have longer city blocks. The way we have in Kenya. When Dar develops as a city people will be pushed out of the city center because of the demand for office space. I think Dar is yet to reach this place

Nairobi is still in the puberty period nothing changed, so we don't have anything to learn from a city which we are in the same age, sometimes we are older than them. Hakuna kipya nairobi.

Then just say bagamoyo road... It is easier when giving directions
The place is CBD in not only a road. The road is just passing through the CBD.
By the way google is your friend you can search Bagamoyo Road and see.
