Widerøe
Widerøe Asset AS (Widerøe) of Norway has signed a purchase agreement for two DHC OEM Certified Refurbished Dash 8-400 aircraft.

“Wideroe is one of our long-term customers and we are thrilled to announce their purchase of two DHC OEM Certified Refurbished Aircraft,” said Ryan DeBrusk, vice-president of sales and marketing for De Havilland Canada.

“We are proud to support Wideroe as they continue to connect the people and communities of Norway using rugged and reliable De Havilland Canada aircraft.”

Widerøe, one of De Havilland Canada’s longest tenured customers, is the largest regional airline in Scandinavia, carrying approximately 2.8 million passengers annually and serving more than 40 domestic and international destinations.

De Havilland Canada’s DHC OEM Certified Refurbishment Program was officially announced at the Farnborough International Airshow earlier and the purchase of these Dash 8-400 aircraft is a significant first step at supporting the DHC Dash 8 program to “keep the fleet flying.”

DHC teams and facilities across Canada are engaged to engineer, refurbish, and deliver Dash 8 aircraft to meet a continuing and growing customer demand.

Tanzania Government Flight Agency
The Tanzania Government Flight Agency (TGFA) has signed a purchase agreement for a DHC OEM Certified Refurbished Dash 8-400 aircraft.

“The addition of a De Havilland Canada OEM Certified Refurbished Aircraft to the TGFA fleet provides continuity to the TGFA’s growing national airline program.” said DeBrusk. “We are proud that we will see another Dash 8 aircraft in Tanzania, where the aircraft is ideally suited to support the development of domestic air travel.”

Skyward Express
Skyward Express has signed an agreement to purchase a refurbished Dash 8-400 aircraft.

The aircraft that will be acquired by Skyward Express is part of this program and will be reconfigured to support their fleet growth plans.

“We are thrilled that Skyward Express is continuing to build their fleet of Dash 8-400s with the addition of an aircraft from our newly announced DHC OEM Certified Refurbishment Program,” said DeBrusk.

“The Dash 8 is a prominent aircraft in Kenya, and we are proud to be working with Skyward Express, a premier operator in the region.”

Advantage Air Travel
DHC has announced an agreement with Advantage Air Travel Limited to supply a Quick Change (QC) freighter kit to support the airline’s business program by providing flexibility for their upcoming Dash 8-400 operation.

Designed to offer operational flexibility, these cargo conversion solutions enhance the overall value and extend the high revenue-generating capabilities of the Dash 8-400 aircraft.

“The cargo market is a growing opportunity for airlines looking for solutions to enhance the revenue-generating capabilities of the Dash 8-400 aircraft,” said DeBrusk.

“De Havilland Canada’s Quick Change program offers a Transport Canada approved cargo conversion that will provide the flexibility desired by the airline and will ensure Advantage Air’s continue success.”

In 2022, De Havilland Canada announced the launch of the Quick Change cargo conversion solution for the Dash 8-400 aircraft to address operational needs for a variety of business models.

Known worldwide for its low cost of operation and exceptional performance and reliability in airline and special mission operations, the Dash 8-400 aircraft’s rugged design also positions it exceedingly well for cargo operations.

The Quick Change solution is a revenue expansion model that offers flexibility to convert Dash 8-400 aircraft between all-passenger and all-cargo operations/configurations combining two income streams for operators and expanding revenue base opportunities.

The short time required to switch configurations allows operators to adapt to market dynamics, and the installation of smoke detection systems in the cabin eliminates the need for attendants while in cargo operation.

This press release was prepared and distributed by De Havilland Canada.

Radisson Hotel Group has expanded its African portfolio with seven new hotels, marking its debut in Tanzania in the first half of 2024. Tanzania has been identified as a key market in the Group’s proactive expansion strategy, making its debut in the country with two hotel signings. This addition enhances the Group’s diverse African portfolio, spanning across 30 countries, further establishing it as the hotel company with the largest market presence in Africa.

In Nigeria, the hotel group continues to hold a leading position with a portfolio of 13 hotels in operation and under development, including five new hotels signed in 2023. The new signing of the Radisson RED Hotel Abuja has further bolstered the Group’s presence in the city, bringing the total number of hotels under development in Abuja to four.

In Morocco, the Group has pursued the same efforts with a clear transformation plan, growing its presence from 1 hotel in 2020 to over 9 hotels in operation and four hotels in development today. Casablanca represents a strategic hub among multiple continents and the new signing of Radisson Blu Hotel & Apartments Casablanca Finance City and Radisson RED Hotel Casablanca Finance City solidifies the Group’s ambitions to reach over 25 hotels by 2030 across the country.

Ramsay Rankoussi, vice president, development, Africa and Turkey at Radisson Hotel Group, says: "The seven new hotels align with our expansion strategy, demonstrating significant growth in key African markets such as Morocco, Nigeria, Tunisia and Ethiopia as well as our highly anticipated debut in Tanzania.

"These hotels also highlight our conversion strategy and our commitment to diversifying our portfolio by introducing new brands and cementing our presence in these important markets."

Tanzanian expansion

Marking the hotel group's debut in Tanzania, the 138-room Radisson Blu Hotel & Apartments, Dar es Salaam, features 94 guestrooms and 44 three-bedroom apartments and is set to open in 2025 as part of a mixed-use development in Dar es Salaam's CBD.

The hotel will occupy the top 14 floors of a 33-floor tower, one of the tallest buildings in the area, and is within walking distance of the ferry terminal to Zanzibar Island.

The hotel will offer a diverse array of dining facilities, including a lobby café, business class lounge, all-day dining restaurant, speciality restaurant, outdoor pool, and pool restaurant. Additional amenities include retail stores, a ladies' salon, indoor parking, a gym, a steam room and sauna, a kids' playroom, and eight meeting rooms.

Supporting a strong market entry, this 196-room Radisson Hotel Mwanza, currently under construction, will debut the Radisson brand in Tanzania in 2025. Mwanza, Tanzania’s second-largest city, is renowned for corporate meetings and events and is the ideal starting point for tours to the Serengeti National Park.

As the only branded hotel in Mwanza, it will feature a lobby café and bar, an all-day dining restaurant, sports bar, outdoor pool bar, executive lounge, and two speciality restaurants, Balaustine, a 'casual-fine dining' experience inspired by the Barbary coast and the Levant and Filini, offering a delectable dining experience of fresh, simple, and delicious Italian-style cuisine.

The meetings and events space includes a triple-height ballroom, business centre, boardrooms, and a conference room. The extensive wellness facilities will include a gym, spa, outdoor pool, and kids' playground.

“With a strong first half of the year, we plan to continue the momentum in the second half by focusing on expanding our presence in key markets such as Morocco and South Africa, where we’ve recently announced our ambition to reach 25 hotels by 2030, doubling the portfolio in both countries. We thank each of our partners for their valued trust in us and our brands,” concludes Rankoussi.
