They do look decent and way better than most in African cities outside South Africa. Despite that, the place looked better with the lowrises alone. The highrises could have been constructed elsewhere as a new estate leaving the lowrises in this area intact. Check out European cities, lots of buildings that were modernized after WW2 are being restored to their original pre-war facade like this building in Warsaw.

Those in the foreground are aesthetically pleasing than the new ones. However, it is still also possible to have the tall apartments and still have an aesthetically pleasing look. If the county government could work with developers like the Chinese in a controlled manner, then we could still have tall buildings that are not an eyesore. Things like enforcing setbacks and minimum distance between two developments/neighboring plots. Kenyan Planning authorities are to blame, not developers. Cause even the Chinese won't build such beacon to beacon apartments back in their home, they would be hanged. Planning Authorities need to put more stringent regulations.

In European cities, they demarcated new areas to construct contemporary highrises that prevented interfereing with classical architecture. I actually like the development happening in Kilimani, Kileleshwa, Westlands, Lavington and South C but It would have been better if those highrises had been constructed in a completely new area. Imagine if Kilimani was as green leafy as it was in the 90s and Ngong had all the highrises currently in Kilimani.
