Unasema you produce better engineers than us just because some buildings in Nairobi collapse? Most of the clients use shortcuts, they never consult professionals since they term them as "expensive". They design and construct buildings by themselves together with their fundis to cut budgets, architects and engineers are never consulted. Never will you find a building built by an engineer collapse, and if it does, you license is revoked and you will never practice again. Buildings constructed by engineers are always of high standards. So you don't really have evidence to prove that your engineers are better than ours.

Highrise buildings have frequently been collapsing in China, which made the government to place restrictions and new limits on buildings. Most cities in China now cannot build buildings more than 150m since a lot of buildings built are substandard. Angalia mbona zinakuwa demolished? Terrible quality.

A client can accuse you of wasting money because you suggest to use more chuma than the one he was told by the fundi; and ends up going the cheaper route. In this case, if the building collapses, the engineer won't have a case to answer cause he clearly specified the quantity of chuma required and that wasn't what was used.

So, Kenya doesn't have a regulatory agency to make sure everyone follows relevant codes and standards of engineering?
