I think saying we are reliant on natural resources is not right apart from mining which makes less than 10% of GDP how is that relying on natural resources ? we dont have oil and we have not yet processed a big chunk of Gas . We mostly depend on Agriculture na Services .Manfcturing inakuwa ingawa bado ni low tech na sio high tech , but we dont need that much high tech , just low tech done at bigger level ili ku employ masses with no high education. By low tech i mean ( we should start simple , textile, food processing, utensils , hii kukwamua watu wenye basic education level
While also investing in research and high tech, ambazo zita employ the generation which are graduates in coming 10 years
Yeah the metrics of HDI zipo kama unavyosema and what am saying is that Samia anajitahidi ku improve same metrics
1. Umesikia Project ya kujenga new univesities na kupanua campsues kuongeza enrlloment ? Ipo na ishaanza kutekelezwa 14 new campuses and expansion of old
2. Madarasa yanajengwa kila kukicha Atleast enrollment numbers zimeongezeka na walimu wanaongezwa
3.About health , facilities zinaongezeka , ambulance zimeongezwa , kuna Bima Affordable kama ICHF ya only 30K a year which mtu anaweza kupata basic care.Naona Hospital mpya nying zimepata EMDs na ICUs . Bado Doc to Pt ratio sio to standard that needs massive improvement
4.Life expectancy takes alot kuiongeza and hapa education inahitajika kwa ukubwa inculding kupunguza Emergencies za Motor accident na event za uokoaji kuongezeka , Uwezo wetu wa ku respond ni mdogo.Bado watu hawajui sana kuhusu chronic (Non communicable diseases) pia bado Communicable diseases nyingne zinaendelea kutusumbua hili litashukua muda kidogo lakini linahitaji .
5.Water services na mpa hongera na alot of diseases can be prevented na maji safi na hygine , wamejitahidi kusambaza na kuchimba visima
Natural capital constitutes a lot of things actually. Mining is one of them but it also entails other sectors like tourism (huge in Tanzania), the blue economy, and agroforestry.
Agriculture is big in Tanzania, but it’s not heavily advanced. That is many farmers still rely on rainfall for irrigation and we have fewer Agro-processing industries.
What I suggested was an improvement in Human Capital. As you’ve mentioned, some good projects in healthcare and education are underway and it’s good. However, we need better policies to fill in the gaps between our education and labor force skill set. We have more young people. If we provide them with high quality education, vocational training, and jobs to enhance their skill levels, our country will do great.
I strongly suggest enhancing the capacity of our educational institutions to be world class and maybe forming partnerships with other institutions abroad. Our curricula also need changes. We need to focus on areas like capital markets, technology and innovation, Real Estate, Science and Mathematics and many more.
We also need to forego our perceived notions about the arts. In many countries, art is a lucrative industry. From drama and film making to visual arts to music and crafts, we could grow so many talents and create another important sector in our economy. So, teach these things in school.
Lastly, there should be a policy to allow young people, such as high school and secondary school students or even college students, to get jobs or internships during holidays. Companies or other enterprises need to hire young people because it improves their soft skills. Even if the job or internship is not directly related to what they study. It could be as easy as shadowing a nurse or a doctor or becoming a teaching assistant, a server and dishwasher at a restaurant, or a barista! Get young people on their feet and start making them self aware of their potential!
