Toyota Tanzania does not assemble any of its cars in Tanzania. Toyota Kenya assembles some of its cars in Kenya. Itabidi mbadilishe sheria ili assembling ianze kufanyika Tanzania. Sisi tulibadilisha sheria ili kuondoa import duty on knock down kits. Imported cars zilikuwa zinatozwa import duty ya 25%, excise duty ya 20% na VAT ya 16% lakini ushuru huu wa import duty on knock down kits ulipo ondolewa basi many brands na sio Toyota tu, zikaamua kuassemble Kenya ili kuavoid kulipa hio 25% import duty.
Kitu kingine, Waziri wa fedha aliposoma budget mwaka huu alipropose kuondoa hio 20% excise duty na 16% VAT on knock down kits. Sasa ikiwa hizi ushuru mbili zitaondolewa pia basi tofauti kati ya watu wanaoimport finished cars na local assemblers itakuwa kubwa sana kwa maana wanaoimport finished cars lazima bado walipe hio 25% import duty, 20% excise duty na VAT ya 16% ilhali assemblers hawatalipa tax hizi tatu. Soma zaidi hapa na mbadilishe sheria zenu pia. Kulingana na hii article, 70% ya magari mapya yanayouzwa Kenya ni locally assembled na only 30% ya magari mapya ndio imported.

How can you call it car maker while the only thing they make here is the body? The chasis they used an old caravan chasis, everything else is bought, they buy tires separate, lights separate and everything else the only thing they do is welding
