SGR revenue up Sh2.1 billion

Revenue generated from the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) grew 15.8 percent to Sh15.44 billion in the year ended December, driven by increased imports and passenger travel.

The latest data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) shows that revenues rose from Sh13.33 billion in 2020.

Revenue from passenger services between Mombasa and Nairobi hit Sh2.2 billion, more than double the Sh896 million realised the previous year. The higher revenues were driven by a sharp jump in the number of passengers who used the fast train service, growing to 1,996,434 travellers up from 811,552 in the previous year.

The SGR’s passenger revenues were hit by a two-month suspension of travel in 2020 after the Covid-19 virus was announced in the country in March of that year.

December saw the SGR ferry the largest number of passengers last year as travellers shuttled between the two cities for the Christmas festivities.

Trains carried 242,827 passengers in December, the most during any month since the train service was launched, surpassing the high of 223,106 travellers in July last year.

The SGR also ferried 5.4 million tonnes of cargo last year, up from 4.4 million tonnes in the previous year. This saw its cargo revenue also shoot up to Sh13.2 billion from Sh12.4 billion.

USA invested in mining which the revenue will be taken to US while in Kenya they have invested in IT which is going to benefit Kenya seriously. Have you ever wondered why out of $3B gold you export your government only received $40M ?
Hahahaha, Is mining not economic sector in Tanzania?, It is the biggest job creator just next to Agriculture in Tanzania, what is the contribution of IT interms of job creation in Kenya?.

Stop your excuses, and accept the reality that Tanzania attracts more FDI than Kunyaland. There is no single USA company in Tanzania which is in mining sector, if you know any, please mention it

Give us the figures of FDI for Kenya and Tanzania 2020/2021, Kenya is not even 50% of that of Tanzania, for the year 2021, USA alone invested $1.5B in Tanzania, Kenya only $353M, do your research before you post/ reply to anything
Anachoshindwa kujua huyo ni kuwa Kenya attracts investments mostly in regional offices and centres while Tanzania attracts real investment in different economic sectors. This is obvious if you compare and dissect FDI inflows in EA.

Leta evidence usichanganye royalties na other mining revenues maana kuna corporate tax at 30% of revenues, PAYE, skills development levy, government mandatory shares 15% and the rest.

Can you please tell us the running costs of your SGR so that we can compare with it's earnings, only through that comparison we can know if this Money it created is enough or not, otherwise that figure is of little meaning
