Joyciline Jepkosgei took Kenyan compatriot and world-record holder Brigid Kosgei's London Marathon title as the full-scale race returned.
Jepkosgei, who won the 2019 New York Marathon, made the decisive move at 22 miles and went on to win by 15 seconds.
The 27-year-old crossed the line in two hours 17 minutes and 43 seconds, while a tired Kosgei dropped back to fourth.
Fine, dry and cool conditions contributed to impressive times with Lemma becoming the sixth fastest man ever in the race, Jepkosgei leaping to seventh on the women's all-time list.
"I'm very excited. Such a beautiful day for running," Jepkosgei told BBC Sport.
"I'm so happy for the London crowd. Every kilometre there were people cheering all the way."
Kosgei, competing just 57 days after claiming Olympic silver in Tokyo, was aiming to follow in the footsteps of Germany's Katrin Dorre and become only the second woman to win three back-to-back titles.

On the men's side, Ethiopia's Sisay Lemma landed the biggest win of his career in the men's race, coming home in 2:04.01 first position and the third place was also a fellow countryman. The second and fourth positions were claimed by Kenyans, Vincent Kipchumba and Evans Chebet respectively.
After 2020's elite-only races, this year's London Marathon welcomed back just over 36,000 mass-event runners to the traditional street course, while another 40,000 runners set out to complete a marathon virtually, logging their distance via a tracking app. The race included several measures to reduce its carbon impact, including electric lead vehicles and finish line goodie bags made out of sugar cane, rather than plastic.

ndo vitu pekee mnayoyaweza

ila haya madaraja/overpasses lazma wazingatie future yawe na upana hata wa lanes 10 hivi! Hapa in 30 years upanuzi wa hii ya chini unafanyikaje?

kwenye Hii area tuna watu wasio na maono sahihi,
Kiukweli I was so disappointed wakati ule wanavunja kituo cha mwendokasi pale Ubungo Maji, only sababu hatuna planners wa kuforecast 10-20 years to come,
at the taxpayers expense, why don’t we think differently ?
