In the recent past, John Pombe Magufuli has been holding public events and rallies regardless of the COVID-19 dangers and risks such gatherings would pose to his health and those of Tanzanians' lives.

Over the last weekend, he led a team of politicians from his Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party where they held a political meeting in Dodoma.

He also invited celebrated artists, starting from WCB Records founder and CEO, Diamond Platnumz and his team, Kings Music founder Ali Kiba, and Konde Gang Worldwide Recorders owner, Harmonize and his team.

The event was packed to capacity, all dressed in yellowish and greenish, the party's colors.

However, it seems John Magufuli was having butterflies in his stomach ahead of the country's Mashujaa Day celebrations on 25 July.

Magufuli has canceled the event that was being eagerly awaited for.

Dr. Magufuli has canceled the crucial event which was supposed to go down in Dodoma City and asked Tanzanians to celebrated their heroes by remembering what they did for the country.

It remains unclear why Magufuli decided to cancel such an important date from Tanzania's 2020 calendar, yet he had declared Tanzania free of coronavirus

Could it be fear of the COVID-19 disease or converting the event's budget to other important development projects in the country?

A few weeks ago, Magufuli declared Tanzania COVID-19 free. This was followed by the re-opening of the economy and even the learning institutions, starting from primary to colleges and universities.

However, his move received criticism from the opposition who said the CCM party leader was putting many lives of Tanzanians at risk.

Opposition still holds that Tanzania is not free of COVID-19 and that Tanzanians are dying from the disease.

In Kenya, which also recorded COVID-19 cases in the same month with Tanzania, cases have grown to over 12, 000. At least 225 people have also passed on due to COVID-19.

Meanwhile, do you think John Magufuli cancel Mashujaa Day in fear of COVID-19 or to avoid unnecessary spending?
