Liverpool player ratings va Everton.
Adrian - 7

Deserves immense credit. Was awful against Aston Villa last time out but didn’t put a foot wrong against Everton. Should now regain some confidence.

Trent Alexander-Arnold - 6

Wasn’t able to make the difference like usual but still a solid showing from the England international, who kept his cool amid the heat of the battle.

Virgil van Dijk - N/A

Hard to judge given he was forced out of the game through injury. Pickford should have seen red and is a lucky man tonight.

Joel Matip - 6

Couldn’t keep a clean sheet but did well to nullify the threat of Calvert-Lewin up top until the closing stages.

Andy Robertson - 8

The Scotland international was a constant threat and got the assist for Mane’s goal. Looked injured at one point but stayed on the pitch.

Jordan Henderson - 8

The England international was a key figure in the middle of the pitch and lead by example. Thought he'd scored a late winner but it was chalked off for offside.

Fabinho - 6

Struggled with the pace and intensity of the contest at times, with James Rodriguez particularly lively for Everton.

Thiago Alcantara - 7

A solid, if unspectacular performance from the former Bayern Munich star. Showed his class with a silky performance amid a fiery encounter.

Sadio Mane - 8

Scored Liverpool’s first goal of the game and was a thorn in Everton’s side.

Roberto Firmino - 6

It’s days like this where the Reds’ need for a prolific No 9 shows. Roberto Firmino showed some net touches but wasn’t at his best.

Mohamed Salah - 8

Looked sharp and lively and scored what appeared to be a sensational winner in the second half before Calvert-Lewin notched.

Joe Gomez - 6

Was out jumped for Keane and Calvert-Lewin's goals. Must improve going forward.

Diogo Jota - 6

Made little impact after coming off the bench.

Gini Wijnaldum - 6

Didn't do anything wrong during his brief time on the pitch.

Msimu huu hatujauanza vizuri. Huo ndiyo ukweli wala tusiukatae.

Hata hivyo, bado ninaamini it's still a 2-horse race (LFC vs ManCity). Which means we must make sure that we don't lose too much ground vs ManCity at this embryonic stage of the league.

Typically, over the first 15 league (EPL) games, a team may not win a league even if they win all the 15 games but it can lose it.... which is what Klopp & his charges should be fully aware of and do their best bit.

Timu yetu msimu ina matatizo kadhaa ya msingi ambayo yasipotatuliwa tunaweza kutokewa na kilichomtokea ManCity last season.

First, we are conceding just too many cheap goals. Talk what you like and blame it all on Adrian but for me this is down to 3 major reasons:

1) Preventing danger at source through high pressing does not appear to be effective enough because Firmino's pressing uptop is no longer effective as he gets easily bullied off the ball and so many teams have learnt how to beat his press (these days his pressing itself anyway has become very timid and wayward)

2) Our midfield's workaholicalism has spectacularly dwindled. Other teams seem to successfully outpress and outmanouvre us in this department and eventually manage to play those dangerous balls through the channels and/or over the top to their attacking runners. That's why I cannot stop worrying about whether Thiago is the right acquisition - it could as well be a futile attempt to squeeze a round peg into a square hole!

3) Our backline has been lacking concentration and dynamism - and this is partly down to VVD's attitude as he seems to be relinquishing his leadership role to literally no one (not sure whether this is just arrogance due to being a champion or something else). Last season we were difficult to beat because we played a pragmatic highline ably led by VVD which would quickly sense an imminent danger from through balls and over the head passes through a lightning-quick backtrack towards our goal where Alisson would also be in waiting to clear the danger. This is conspicuously lacking this season - and it worries me to my gut!

Second, our front 3 unit is not functioning at the level we are used to seeing them do. During the last couple of seasons, even in in the games that we were conceding goals, we would always count on our trident uptop to outscore our opponent and bag all 3 points in the process. This however is missing this season - and for me our weak link is Firmino who needs to improve or be replaced altogether.

Third, it's this mediocre mentality whereby the players raise their game vs the so called "big teams" but the standards miserably dwindle vs "small teams". We have seen how our team played vs Chelsea & Arsenal - compare and contrast that with when we played Leeds or Villa. Two worlds apart!

Fourth, this latest injury to VVD is likely to screw up our season quite acutely. I understand since the season started he has been carrying some sort of an injury but he has been enduring it - it may probably explain some of his below per performances of late, apart from the lingering questions over his attitude of course.
