Mohamed Salah: Liverpool sign Roma's former Chelsea winger for £34m

Salah (right) becomes the joint most expensive African player
Liverpool have completed the 39m euro (£34m) signing of Roma's former Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian, 25, has signed a five-year deal and has been a prime target for manager Jurgen Klopp.

At current exchange rates, the fee is short of the club record £35m paid for Andy Carroll in 2011 but matches the sum they spent in 2016 to make Sadio Mane the most expensive African player.

Salah almost joined Liverpool from Basle in 2014 before moving to Chelsea.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said Salah has "the perfect mix of experience and potential", adding: "This is a really exciting signing for us.

"I have followed him since he emerged at Basle and he has matured into a really good player.

"His pace is incredible, he gives us more attacking threat and we are already strong in this area. I like that we will make it even more competitive."

Salah will wear the number 11 shirt, with Roberto Firmino moving to number nine.

After only six Premier League starts following his £11m move, Salah had loan spells at Fiorentina and Roma before joining the latter in a permanent move for about £15m last summer.

He was a key figure as Roma finished second in Serie A last season, scoring 15 goals in 31 league appearances.

Liverpool have already signed Chelsea's 19-year-old striker Dominic Solanke, who was top scorer as England won the Under-20 World Cup and will join on 1 July.

That fee will be decided by a tribunal after he rejected a new contract at Stamford Bridge, with the fee expected to be about £3m.

next on the line is..... Emerick Aubameyang (according to the Independent). hii itakuwa ni mama la mimama yoote!

Liverpool told transfer target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will cost £63m

Borussia Dortmund have said they will listen to any offer which shows 'its appreciation' for the forward in 'a financial way'

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has set a £63m asking price for Liverpool transfer target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, stating that the club will listen to any offer which shows “its appreciation” for the forward in “a financial way”.

Liverpool have been linked to the in-demand forward, who scored 42 goals for club and country last season, as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his squad ahead of the new campaign.

Aubameyang has spoken publicly of his desire to leave Dortmund, stating in January that “If I want to go to the next level, I need to leave in summer”, and Watze has confirmed that the club are willing to sell the striker for the right price.
The forward had initially looked set for a summer move to Paris Saint-Germain but despite making an official approach, the Ligue 1 side pulled out in a development that opens the door to Liverpool and other interested parties.

And speaking to Bild, Watzke revealed that any offers worth £63m and beyond for Aubameyang would bring Dortmund to the transfer table.

“We will listen to it when a club is willing to show its appreciation for Aubameyang in a financial way as well,” he said.

“If an official bid were to reach more than £63million, it would have to be reported as a necessary to proceed. This has not happened so far.”

The Gabonese forward has scored a total of 85 goals from 125 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, and has been crowned the Bundesliga top scorer, Bundesliga player of the year and African footballer of the year during his time in Germany.

Aldo - I don't want Virgil van Dijk to go on strike but I'd love him at Liverpool
Reds legend clarifies position over coveted centre back

Liverpool goalscoring great John Aldridge has insisted he DID NOT urge Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk to ‘go on strike’ in a bid for force through a move to Anfield.

Southampton reported Liverpool to the Football Association last month after what they claimed was an illegal approach for Van Dijk, with the Anfield club later issuing an apology to their Premier League rivals after accepting they had overstepped the mark in their talks with the Dutch centre-back.

In his regular column for Ireland's Sunday World newspaper last weekend, Aldridge suggested the defender could make moves to push through a £50m transfer.

That column prompted headlines suggesting Aldo was calling for the player to go on strike, but he insists his words were misconstrued.

“I’m not saying he should go on strike in a bid to force through a move,” said Aldo, who also writes a weekly column for the ECHO.

“I’m just saying this is what happens in the game now. If a player wants a move, there are ways he can make it happen and Liverpool have been on the receiving end of this from Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling in recent years.

“I made it clear in my article that I don’t like the way the modern game has gone, but all the power is with players these days and if they want a move, they can make it happen.

“Who knows what Van Dijk will do next. I would like to see him move to Liverpool because he would be perfect for Jurgen Klopp’s team and a great centre-back partner for Joel Matip, but it is up to the player and his club to sort out the problem now.”

Aldridge’s column last weekend insisted top clubs make illegal approaches to players on a regular basis, as he suggested Van Dijk’s move to Liverpool could yet be revived.

“Tapping up goes on all the time in the game and even if Liverpool went a bit far in their pursuit of van Dijk before they spoke to Southampton, I don’t believe this transfer story is dead in the water,” Aldo wrote.

“Van Dijk needs to make the next move and I reckon he will tell Southampton that he wants out and he wants to go to Liverpool.

“I don’t like the way the game has gone in some ways and players can hold clubs to ransom if they want a move and big money offers are coming in, but that is the way of the world now.

“Let’s look at the facts here: Southampton paid £13m for this guy a couple of years ago and they could end up making a profit of around £40m on him.”

Liverpool's €100m bid for Kylian Mbappe rejected by Monaco - transfer rumours
Spanish paper Marca claim the Reds have made a big move for the Monaco strike

Liverpool have had a €100m bid for Monaco wonderkid Kylian Mbappe rejected, according to reports in Spain.

Marca, one of the leading Spanish publications, claim that a substantial bid from the Reds was turned down by the French club.

Mbappe is one of Europe's most sought-after players this summer, with interest from clubs all over the continent.

Liverpool, we know, would take the 18-year-old in a heartbeat. But Marca claim that Jurgen Klopp has firmed up his interest with a 'second bid' of €100m (£88m).

The report insists, however, that: "Dmitri Rybolovlev, owner of the Ligue 1 team, doen't seem to have much intention of selling his striker and in any event, has always maintained that the starting price will go beyond the 114m euros that Manchester United paid for Paul Pogba last summer."

It states that Monaco are more than happy to keep Mbappe if he wishes to stay, and that the player has told Rybolovlev that the only club he would leave the principality for is Real Madrid.

Arsenal are another Premier League club that have been strongly linked, with reports on Thursday suggesting The Gunners were 'increasingly confident' of landing the France international.

Wait and see, shall we?

Liverpool newboy Mohamed Salah insists he's 100% a better player than at Chelsea
New Reds winger says he has changed as a player and a person since his spell at Stamford Bridge

Liverpool new boy Mohamed Salah insists he's much better equipped to take the Premier League by storm during his second spell in England.

The Egyptian winger failed to make his mark in the capital after Chelsea beat the Reds to his signature three-and-a-half years ago.

Salah made just 19 appearances for the Londoners before being off-loaded on loan to Fiorentina.

Since then his career has been on an upward curve. He went on to flourish at Roma – scoring 19 goals in all competitions last season.

Asked if he was a better player now than when he was at Chelsea, Salah told LFCTV: “100% yes. They have paid a lot of money for that!

“Everything, even my personality is different. I was a kid then, just 21. Now, four years on, I have a baby and everything is different.

“I feel better suited now. I have a lot of experience from three clubs. I was at Chelsea, Fiorentina and then Roma.

“I always try to improve and get better and better. I think last season was my best season.

“I feel like I am doing better and better every year. Now I have a new challenge here.

“Liverpool fans will expect more. It won't be easy but I am ready. I feel love from the supporters. They have been sending me funny photos and videos!

“I have experience. I like the way English football is. I'm happy to be back.”

A left-footer, Salah does most of his damage from the right wing, but insists he's versatile.

“When we played five at the back at Roma I played as the second striker, like the No 10,” he added.

“Sometimes I go on the left. I can play anywhere along the front.”

Salah thanked Roberto Firmino for agreeing to hand over the No 11 shirt and take No 9 instead.

With No 11 already taken, Salah was ready to take No 9 himself but the Brazilian attacker agreed to the switch.

“I appreciate what Firmino did,” he said

“I like No 11. It was my number in Rome and with the national team. The club asked him and I have to thank him very much.”
