One of the nice things for Liverpool fans when they got rid of Brendan Rodgers and appointed Jurgen Klopp as their new manager was that it meant they could stop buying young, vaguely promising, ultimately disappointing foreigners like Divock Origi and Lazar Markovic and instead bring in some bona-fide, world class stars like the ones that played for Dortmund when Klopp was there. So it might be slightly disappointing for those Liverpool fans to see that they are being linked today with Riccardo Saponara and Alexandre Pato.
Not that there?s anything especially wrong with those players. Saponara is a vaguely promising 23-year-old Italian midfielder, who looks like a really nice footballer in the same way that Alberto Aquilani did. Pato, meanwhile, has repeatedly proven to be ultimately disappointing at his previous clubs, although on the plus side he is vaguely promising. The Metro says that Liverpool are keen to make a January move for Saponara, who would cost ?14.2m, while the Standard reports that the Reds have reached an ?agreement in principle? to sign Pato. Brendan Rodgers will be excited.
