It is true that nobody has ever died due to lack of sex...but whether sex is a want or need differs from one person to another. To Mr A and Mrs A sex is a want but to Mrs B and Mrs B sex is a need. It depends a lot on your libido levels.

Needs- that which we cant live without As in it is physiologically impossible for the human body to exist without eg. oxgen, water, food, etc. So whether you are Mr. A , Mrs. A or Mr B, Not having sex will never ever kill you! Granted it may lead to adverse life conditions, and/or interfere with the quality of life you might have, but bottom line is one can exist without it despite the libido levels aforementioned. Hence my earlier point , sex is a mere want!!

What's there to debate is the fact that there is no clear-cut answer as to whether it is a need or a want. Take for instance reproduction. Is it a need or want?

What's there to debate is the fact that there is no clear-cut answer as to whether it is a need or a want. Take for instance reproduction. Is it a need or want?

I beg to differ. Need as I know it,is what we can't live without. If we can live without sex, then by induction sex is not a Need!!!!
As far as reproduction goes , it depends from which vantage point we are looking at it. At individual level it's a want, where as at a society level its a need. We, as part of our species need to reproduce, so as to not become extinct!
